EMERGENCY NURSING ORIENTATION:

ENA-DEVELOPED COURSE MEETS THE DEMANDS OF TODAYS EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

Emergency department (ED) nurses play a pivotal role at the front lines of healthcare in today's turbulent era of ED overcrowding, extended wait times, and growing ranks of uninsured. That's why it's imperative that emergency nurses are prepared to intervene swiftly and efficiently for every patient situation. Elsevier/MC Strategies understands the challenges that emergency nursing departments face when bringing new ED nurses up to speed. Consequently, we've partnered with the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) to develop the ENA: Emergency Nursing Orientation course, a groundbreaking e-learning course designed to augment and support preceptor-led clinical orientation.

Developed by ENA

This comprehensive, Web-based course is authored by the ENA and linked to corresponding online textbook assignments from Sheehy's Emergency Nursing: Principles and Practice, 5th edition, the authoritative resource in the field. The blended approach is ideally suited for both new and experienced emergency nurses. The Elsevier/MC Strategies' Emergency Nursing Orientation course consists of 43 online modules that incorporate the latest evidence-based practices and are updated on a regular basis. This course offers an opportunity to earn up to 69.8* continuing nursing education contact hours awarded by the ENA. A wide array of topics are covered from the legal foundations of emergency care to assessment and end-of-life issues. The course provides detailed information on a full range of trauma emergencies, including head, spinal, thoracic, burns, respiratory, and many more. The Emergency Nursing Orientation course also offers guidance for intervening for populations with special population care needs, such as pediatric, violence and abuse, behavior health, and substance abuse.

Interactive Tools

All content is presented in an organized, concise, and easy-to-read fashion. Captivating interactive elements, including animation, video segments, tables, audio, and even "quiz show" questions-and-answers, serve to enhance understanding and simplify complex topics. And because reading assignments are imbedded within the modules, learners don't have to leave the online learning environment to complete lesson assignments. The wide variety of self-check activities with feedback and rationales for correct and incorrect answers help nurses engage with the content, test their knowledge, and identify areas requiring further study. Case-based, problem-solving learning activities convey real-world scenarios and help strengthen decision-making and critical-thinking skills at the point of care. Pretests and posttests are presented for each module. As an added bonus, a Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) Alcohol Screening Toolkit is included in the course.
