Student Objective
I am looking to graduate Iowa State University in the spring as a Computer Engineer. My goals include developing myself as a professional and obtaining valuable work experience before ultimately deciding where I best fit as a professional in my industry. In the future, I would like to explore the field of software development to start off my career and potentially move into management or other fields such as hardware design. From taking general education electives, I can apply a more broad experience to my career. For example, by taking a couple courses in Latino studies, I can start to understand how other cultures differ from ours. By taking a course in Psychology, I am able to more strongly understand how we as humans create and think about our environment. These courses have been an excellent experience into dealing with communication. This includes being able to do everything from persuading others, to understanding their needs as an individual, and so on. When solving engineering problems, its important to look at the whole picture from multiple sides. For example, an economics course can help to understand the economic side of your problems and how you can handle those problems. By taking diverse courses at Iowa State, I have been given the opportunity to see the world through the average persons eyes which is an incredibly valuable experience when it comes to designing solutions that fit into the societys expectations.
