Architectural/ Civil Engineering

Tran Duong Engineering by Design 8/31/13 12A Mr. Cepeda
What is an Architectural Engineering? Architectural engineering is a branch of our wide engineering field. It is a career that significantly contributed to the building industry of the world. As an architectural engineer, he or she is specialize to design systems within a building (electricity, drain, heat and cooler, etc.). In many ways, architectural engineering is very familiar to civil engineering and mechanical engineering because these fields focus mainly on the technical aspects of a construction. What are the main duties of an architectural engineer? As previously mentioned, an architectural engineer will be responsible for the design of the technical systems of a building. He or she works in team with the architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and other architectural engineers as well. They all come together to analyze the constructions design, seek problems, and come up with solutions in order to produce

a success project of a safe and functional building. With this being said, other than mathematic and scientific skills, engineers must possess a strong communication skill; it will helps engineers to effectively communicate and discuss their ideas with the rest of the team. How to become an architectural engineer? Similarly to other engineering professions, architectural engineer must meet all academic and professional requirements to become fully licensed. Most jobs in this field require a bachelors degree from an accredited program, ABET (the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc.); however, if students desire for research and development positions, they will need to earn a graduate degree. After graduating, students must pass two crucial exams and gain many work experiences in order to become licensed professional engineers. Two of the exams that students must pass for licensure are administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). Salary Based on statistics, the average salary for architectural engineering jobs is $74,000, but this number can be vary greatly depends on the company, location, industry, experience and other factors. Many aspire engineers must remember and understand a fact that the salary of an engineer will greatly depends on the number of years of experience in the field. Therefore, for architectural engineers entry-level starting salary falls between $40,000 and $67,860. Future Job Outlook According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, from 2010 to 2020, architectural engineering field will grow 24%, which is faster than average. The demand of architectural engineers is exceptionally high for a construction recession of the country. The cause of such opportunity is fewer than 20 schools in the United States offer a degree in architectural engineering, making few graduates to fill the spots. The regions in the south and west will most likely where architectural engineers will find great opportunities. What are the Universities in Texas that offer Architectural/ Civil Engineering program? University of Texas in Austin Prairie View A&M University Southern Methodist University Texas A&M University Texas Tech University University of Houston University of Texas at Arlington First Year Degree Plan for Architectural and Civil Engineering ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING
