Title: Pre-Student Teaching Lesson Plan Date: March 2013 Artifact Description: My artifact for this experience is a small

group lesson plan that was written during my prestudent teaching experience. This lesson was taught to a group of five students and was for a program that the teacher had in place called Double Dose which is an early intervention for students that were behind in reading. The lesson lasted approximately 30 minutes. ALIGNMENT Wisconsin Teacher Standard Alignment This experience best aligns with standard seven of the Wisconsin Teacher Development and Licensure Standards which states: The teacher plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, the community, and curriculum goals. This experience best aligns with standard seven because I had control of the lesson planning and created a plan based on the curriculum goals and needs of the students. The lesson plan that I wrote and taught was specifically suited for the students that it was taught. In order to teach the lesson thoroughly I was required to have a good understanding of the subject matter. UW-Platteville School of Education Knowledge, Skills, and Disposition Statement Alignment This experience best aligns with KS1.e. of the UW-P School of Education Knowledge, Skill, and Disposition statements which states: The candidate, with appropriate students input, has the ability to develop relevant, goal-directed, engaging, clear, and varied learning activities that progress coherently and produce a unified instructional setting that reflects recent professional research. This experience best aligns with this standard because the lesson was part of a unified instructional set that had a clear goal for each student. The lesson was clear for the students and was varied from their regular learning activities because of the nature of the group, which was an intervention for students who were falling behind. Secondary Alignments KSD1.a.: Demonstrates Knowledge of Content and Pedagogy KSD1.b.: Demonstrates Knowledge of Students KSD1.c.: Selects Instructional Goals KS1.d.: Demonstrates Knowledge of Resources KS1.e.: Designs Coherent Instruction KSD2.c.: Manages Classroom Procedures KS3.c.: Engages Students in Learning KSD3.e.: Demonstrates Flexibility and Responsiveness REFLECTION What I learned about teaching/learning: I learned that it is very important for a teacher to be well-prepared before going into the classroom. Knowledge of the subject matter and the students is key to teaching an effective lesson. The teacher should also have a clear view of the curriculum goals.

What I learned about myself as a prospective educator: It is important for me as the teacher to have a good understanding of the subject matter and curriculum goals when beginning a lesson. These things should guide me in the lesson planning process. It is important that the things planned will lead the students toward the curriculum goals in the best way possible.
