Procedural text recipes, following instructions for planting Explanations We will be reading non-fiction texts relating to living and non-living things. Listening centers Students will use listening centres to listen to stories about caring for living things. Students will draw and paint still life pictures of real plants, animals and food. Centres: Pictures of animals for punching, cutting and sticking activities, using stampers and punchers to assemble animal pictures.

Data Handling: sorting: seeds by size shape and colour. Pattern and Function: Patterning using seeds. Number: Counting (focus on number value), using seeds Measurement: Estimating and comparing the heights of plants grown in class. Students will: Learn to distinguish between speaking and singing voice Introduced to a number of different songs about animals (Farm animals/different size animals) Connecting to the EC Music concert. Encouraged to participate in group singing Introduced to simple percussion instruments Involved in activities which encourage responses to sound and silence. Fruit and vegetable printing Still life drawing using various medium. Art work relating to The Hungry Caterpillar (printing) Collage art work connected to the Bad Tempered ladybird- Art work will be used at the EC music concert Painting on natural materials leaves etc. large 2D art of Palm trees Wax resist fish/fish prints Explore the difference between living and nonliving things using FLASH CARDS (children must do different things e.g. stand up or sit down, move or freeze, run to one side or the other depending on whether the card represents a living or non-living object.) Using same flash cards get pupils to act or move like the different objects e.g. PENCIL, BUTTERFLY, BIKE, CAR, WORM etc.
