(P) Students should be able to throw and hit the softball correctly. (NASPE #__1_; MA CF #_2.17_ ; Task/Activity #_1,2_) (C) students should understand where to run after hitting the ball as well as throwing the ball to the right place when given the opportunity. (NASPE #__5_; MA CF #__2.26_ ; Task/Activity #_Entire lesson_)

Check each objective is it specific? Is it achievable? Is it developmentally appropriate? Teacher Performance Objectives During the lesson the teacher will: 1. Explain all of the safety and and rules for the lesson.

2. Explain all of the skill cues as well as the start and stop signals. 3. Give more specific feedback to the students then in previous lessons. 4. Refrain from calling the students guys. Special Considerations What are the safety concerns? What is unique about the students in this class? During the lesson there is a possibility of many softballs and bats being used at the same time. This can get dangerous and the students need to make sure that they are aware of their surroundings while using the equipment.

Informing: Fielding is one of the most important parts to softball. Fielding is essentially putting your body in the path of the ball to the best of your ability and using your glove to stop and control the ball. The most important aspect to Fielding is keeping your eye on the ball. You should watch the ball all the way into the point where it is in your glove.

Balls in the air:

If the ball is above your waist use the thumb down method with your glove while catching the ball. If the ball is below your waist, use the thumb up, palm up method for catching the ball. Align the incoming ball with the middle of your body

The student will first roll the ball to the teacher to demonstrate balls on the ground. Next the student will toss a ball below the teachers waist but in the air to demonstrate catching a ball with the thumb up palm up method. Finally, the student will now toss a ball to the teacher that is above their waist to demonstrate the catching with your thumb down method. After this the student and teacher will demonstrate the first SSSSSSSSSS

Transition: Students will partner up and take a glove and ball and spread out amongst the field but 20 feet away from their partner. Students also should make sure that they stand at least 10 feet away from other groups.

S S

S S Activity 1: Students will start by partnering up 20 feet away from each other. Without a glove to start, the students will roll the ball to each other and work on properly fielding a ground ball with the thumb up palm up method. After 2 minutes of practicing ground balls the students will practice catching balls in the air without a glove on to show proper technique with the hands. After two minutes of practicing this, the students will be told to now use their gloves and practice both catching ground balls and balls in the air with a glove. Extension harder: As the students improve, they will be offered to start to move back and increase the distance from their partner. Extension Easier: If the students are struggling to complete the task from 20 feet away they will be told that they can move closer in order to help make it easier to field the ball S S

Activity 2: The students will spread out at every position except for pitcher, which the teacher will play as. One team will stay in and be the batters. Each team will get two outs per change. After every change of team batting the fielders will have to go to a position that they have not played yet. Every teams score will accumulate until the end of the game. The team with the most runs scored. Extension: if the fielders are getting are not getting into the game as much as you would like them to a new rule will be that every ball caught in the air will be an extra point for their team.
