BRAIN AND BEHAVIOUR THEMES AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES The major themes of the subunit include: mood and

d affect regulation, including stress perception and thought processes principles of psychopharmacology the inter-relationship of mental and physical processes the relevance of past/early experiences to mental health and illness and development COMPONENTS The subunit is comprised of the following components, all of which students are expected to attend: The clinical skills blended learning curriculum (4 LGS, 4 online e-learning modules, a teaching OSCE and an online MSE exercise) review of archived lectures as identified in the calendar completion of online e-learning modules twice weekly tutorials devoted to the study of the tutorial cases which vary considerably in their complexity attendance at all large group sessions LEARNING OBJECTIVES By the end of this subunit, the student should demonstrate ability to: recognize abnormalities of emotions, perceptions, behaviour and cognition, and describe them in appropriate terminology. The student will be expected to articulate an approach to the evaluation of patients with: anxiety or panic apathy and withdrawal anger and violence perceptual disturbances abnormal beliefs disorientation and memory disturbance pain or other forms of somatic distress maladaptive behaviours recurrent interpersonal problems addiction identify etiological factors relevant to the understanding of individual cases including consideration of the following: genetic influences brain development and function early life experiences physical health socio-economic situation understand the major drug classes used to treat diseases studied in this subunit
