Inspected mouth for pockets of food. 6. Discussed and demonstrated chin-tuck position. Observed return demonstration. 7. Added thickener to liquids as needed. 8. Offered small amounts of food, touching utensil to patients mouth or tongue to provide tactile cue to begin eating. 9. Provided verbal cueing while feeding and observed for coughing, choking, gagging, and drooling. Suctioned airway as necessary. 10. Advised patient to remain sitting upright for at least 30 to 60 minutes after the meal. 11. Assisted patient hand hygiene and oral care. 12. Returned patients tray to appropriate place and washed hands.
