Project Plan for SMART Goal

1. Assignment Introduction: o 2 to 3 class periods will be devoted to introducing WebQuest to the students and how to create one. o Students will go through the process of creation and will be given reasons why they will be creating one. o Students will be separated into pairs by pulling name sticks from a cup anonymously. The assignment is for students to create a cumulative study resource for the mathematics. This study tool will be in the form of a WebQuest for the class to use in preparation for the WESTTEST 2. Under the guidance of the teacher students will work together in pairs of two to create, find, explain, and manage two resources that correlate with the chapters that will be assigned to them. Side Note: In the state of West Virginia the Math content classes are taught in units that are further separated into chapters. Usually there are 20-23 chapters. In groups of two, students will be assigned a chapter and will collaboratively work together with their partner and, as needed, with the rest of the class by the use of a blog from eduBlogs, to be created and supervised by the teacher. The pairs will be responsible for individually creating a resource to be used as a study tool to prepare for the West Test 2 in March. The second resource can be a resource created or found on the Internet as long it is it is properly cited and relevant to the assigned chapter content. At the end of each chapter, students will present their finding and creations with the rest of the class before posting the final project onto a pre-template WebQuest for the class to use as a study tool. Students will be reminded of proper etiquette when using the Internet. Proper consequences will be followed if rules are not followed. Within the assignment description, students will learn that they will be working with a partner to create/find a mathematical resource tool to help the whole class prepare for the Mathematical section of the WestTest. Within that partnership roles will be given, which will be determined by the group members and will later be a part of assessment. Students will be required to blog each chapter at least two times on

2. Roles and Responsibility

3. Development (Goals and Indications)

how progress is going on their personal project as well as the assignments and have already been presented. This will be a final part of the assessment. Also part of the final project grade included in the 70% (described below in assessment) is the project presentation where student will be graded on overall presentation, neatness and accuracy, and usefulness of the resources. Progress indicators will include an increase in the number of problems solved, increase in %correct, a developed use of graphic organizers, and correctness and effectiveness of project delivery. End project will involve the creation of an online study tool created by the students by the creation of a WebQuest. This study tool will be for student to collaboratively use and share will the rest of the class as extra practice to study and prepare for the WestTest 2. The annual WestTest 2 for West Virginia schools will be the final indicators of whether or not the students have benefited from the process and will be used to determine whether the teaching methods were effective or will need to be altered.

4. Assessment

5. Resources

All assignments will be assessed by rubrics. The first rubric accounts for 70% of the final grade given for this project. There will be individual rubrics given to each student based upon completion of the project, presentation of the project, effective study resources, open collaboration, and good communication with partner and classmates. The second rubric will be counted as 30% of the final project grade. This rubric will be on the blog section of the project. The blog is to be set up by the teacher and students will be guided in conversations by teacher assistance. Students will be assessed by use of the second rubric to determine open collaboration with class mates, willingness to participate, and a developing communication skill set. Edublogs: Students will be required to blog each chapter at least two times on how progress is going on their personal project as well as the assignments that have already been presented. This will be a final part of the assessment. The Blog will be created by the teacher, guided by the teacher, and maintained by the teacher.
