This includes writing fiction, drama, and poetry. Students will need lined writing paper, a black or blue pen, a 9.5in x 6 in spiral notebook, and typing paper. Upon successful completion of the class, students will be able to: Grading Become familiar with a variety of creative writing Write a short story, poem, or play Understand the foundation of conflict in fictional writing Develop creative ideas from brainstorming to a finished piece of writing Improve their writing skills

Participation and individual motivation are important elements for students in this class. Grades will be based on written work, presentations, and participation. Classroom Management

Students are expected to arrive in class on time, participate in classroom discussions, turn assignments in on time, and be respectful of the instructor and other students. Students are expected to attend and actively engage in every class session. All written assignments should be typed in 12 pt font, double-spaced, on one side of the page only. All work should be turned in on time. Late work will receive half credit within the first week. Work that is more than one week late will receive no credit. Using another persons thoughts and accomplishments without proper acknowledgement or documentation is an unacceptable offense. Written work submitted by a student that contains plagiarized material will receive a 0. All students will improve writing skills, the ability to express ideas using organization and precise vocabulary across the curriculum, as measured by the selected system-wide and school based assessments.
