ABSTRAK

Aplikasi Fisika Nuklir di Bidang Kesehatan sebagai Terapi Kanker Prostat. Fisika nuklir adalah salah satu bidang fisika yang mempelajari sifat dan karakteristik dari radioisotop. Radioisotop dapat dimanfaatkan pada berbagai bidang. Radioisotop dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai perunut di bidang industri untuk mengecek kebocoran pipa, mengukur ketebalan pipa, dan sebagainya. Selain itu, radioisotop juga dapat dimanfaatkan di bidang kedokteran untuk mendiagnosis suatu penyakit; seperti Na-24 untuk mendeteksi gangguan peredaran darah, I-125 untuk terapi kanker. Penanaman I-125 pada jaringan yang terkena kanker dapat mematikan sel kanker secara efektif. Penanaman biji partikel radioaktif ini dapat digunakan sebagai alternatif pengobatan kanker. Selain itu, penanaman biji partikel sebagai terapi kanker ini tidak bersifat spesifik untuk jenis kanker tertentu, melainkan dapat digunakan sebagai terapi berbagai jenis kanker seperti kanker prostat, kanker otak, kanker tiroid, kanker payudara, dsb. ABSTRACT

Application of Nuclear Physics in Life-Science as Prostate Cancer Therapy. Nuclear physics is one of the physics fields which observes the properties and characteristics of radioisotopes. Radioisotopes are used at many fields. Radioisotopes can be used as a tracer in industry to get to know about the leakage of any pipes, measuring the thickness of pipes, and so on. On the other hand, radioisotopes are also useful in life-science to diagnose any diseases; such as Sodium-24 to detect any deviations in blood circulation system, I-125 to be used as a cancer therapy, and so on. Implantation of I-125 to the human tissue where the cancer cells lie is able to kill the cancer cells effectively. The implantation of these particles can be considered by the cancer patients as an alternative method to get rid of the cancer. Despite of the I-125s ability to terminate one kind of a cancer specifically, this method can be used as many kinds of cancer therapy, such as prostate cancer, brain cancer, thyroid cancer, breast cancer, and many others.
