Dear Parents,

October 7, 2013

We are very excited to take our Prospect Middle School students on an educational field trip to Rogue Elk Creek in a few weeks on Thursday, November 14th. We will be planting trees by the river to help restore the local ecosystem while learning about wildlife in the area. This is a service learning project that takes students beyond textbook learning to become leaders in the community, serving as stewards and helpers of our shared place. Their work will benefit all visitors to the area for years to come as well as the plants and animals that make their homes there. Our partners, the URWA (Upper Rogue Watershed Association), are funding this opportunity and are very excited embark on this long term journey with Prospect Charter School. We hope this will be the first of many service learning opportunities to come for our middle school kids! The school will be providing sack lunches. Please dress your child warmly, with long pants and close toed shoes. If there are any allergies or other health concerns regarding this field trip, please let us know on the permission form when you sign and return it to us. Students will be outdoors for about three hours and handling planting tools. We will leave the school by district bus around 11:15 am, picnic at McGregor Park, and then proceed to Elk Creek to plant trees and learn about river wildlife. We will work with our partners, URWA, from 12:30-3:30 pm. Then we will head back to school, returning to campus by 4:00 pm. All three middle school teachers will accompany the students. Additional chaperones are welcome. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Kolni at 541-560-3653 ext. 248. Thank you kindly! Sincerely, Ms. Kolni Mrs. Alexander Mrs. McAdam & Principal Dexter
