David Wechsler
Mohamed Ahmed
Wechsler viewed intelligence as the global
and aggregate capacity to act purposefully to
think rationally, and to deal effectively with
the environment.
Wechsler explained intelligence as verbal
and performance abilities.
Verbal abilities: entirely language dependant
such as vocabulary and comprehension.
Performance abilities: less dependant on
language - hands on activities.
Wechsler explained that four conditions must
be present in order for a behaviour to be
considered intelligent.
Goal-directed: has a purpose.
Awareness: is conscious and controlled.
Rational: is consistent and appropriate.
Worthwhile: is constructive and useful.
First developed by David wechsler in 1939.
the test are commonly referred to as the
wechsler scales.
The best known of the wechsler scales are:
WAS-V (Wechsler adult intelligence scales)
16 years, 11 month-90 years.
The WSC-V (Wechsler intelligence scale for
children) 2 years 7 month 16 years 10
month.
The WPPS ( wechsler preschool and
primary scale of intelligence) 2 years 6 month
7years, 3 month.
The WAS tests are organised in four categories:
verbal comprehension
perpetual reasoning
verbal memory
processing speed.
