NORM Survey Program

Rev.1
1. INTRODUCTION
PDO are presently still at the stage of quantifying the NORM risks. The presence of NORM
depends on the precipitation of scales and deposits of sludge in certain process areas. This
process is subject to reservoir conditions such as pressure and temperature and is time dependent.
Therefore there is a need to initiate a program of regular surveys throughout PDO in order to
establish current levels and detect trends.

1.1 Objective
To conduct a program of regular surveys to ascertain the extent and spot trends in order to
successfully control NORM in PDO.

1.2. SCOPE
This procedure shall apply to all personnel conducting a predefined program of regular site surveys
to ascertain radiation levels and interpret results.

1.3 Responsibilities
1.3.1 RAC
To define objectives of the survey program and review overall results.
1.3.2 CRFP/RPA
To specify a detailed survey programme, record results in a database and analyse results prior to
submission to the RAC.
1.3.3 RPS/RPT
To conduct surveys and report results to the CRFP/RPA.

2. Program
The RAC shall annually define the requirements for a NORM monitoring program to detect
trends. Based on these requirements the CRFP shall prepare a detailed program for approval by
the RAC which shall subsequently be implemented in the field.
Results of this program shall be maintained on the Corporate Health Webpage and trends shall be
reported to the RAC by the CRFP, at least, annually.
