In 2013, about 232,340 new cases will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and 64,640 new cases of early stages and non-invasive breast cancer in women Breast cancer is the #2 leading cause of cancer death in women. Lung cancer is #1. Currently, there are 2.8 million breast cancer survivors in the U.S. Approximately 1 in 8 women will be affected by breast cancer in her lifetime. Women over 40 are 3 times more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer. When breast cancer is detected early and confined to the breast, the 5-year survival rate is 98%. 5-10% of all breast cancer cases are related to a genetic mutation. Alcohol, being overweight, and not exercising are lifestyle risk factors.
