Laura Light ECED 461 Mrs.

Trainor October 17, 2013 TWS 9 Learning Environment Classroom climate: With my own classroom, I will set a welcoming atmosphere for every student. I will try to greet each student every morning, return hugs when they are offered, and set procedures promptly in the school year. Respect will be a high expectation of mine every day for me and my students. My classroom will have music going most of the time since classical music seems to calm the students. I will try to encourage every student to answer questions, participate in class discussions, stay on task, and follow directions. If a problem does arise, I will address it immediately so the student realizes what they were doing and given time to correct their mistake. Behavioral expectations: Respect others, respect yourself, respect your school Follow directions promptly and do your best work Raise your hand to speak or stand Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself Be safe, be kind, be honest

The list of behavioral expectations will be taught to the students on the first day of school and reviewed every day for the first week. Students will be reminded of my expectations when it is deemed necessary. Consequences: I will have a chart listing all of my expectations in numerical order. When a child does not meet my expectation, then they will be given a number from my expectations. For example, if number five is talking at appropriate times, and the child is talking - the child will receive a 5 on the chart. The first number will just be a warning. If the child receives a second number, then it will be 5 minutes off their

recess. For each number thereafter, it will be an additional 5 minutes. With 2-3 numbers, the child will have a straight face in their agenda for the parents to sign. With 4 or more numbers, the child will have a sad face. If it is a minor offense and does not disrupt the classroom, then the consequences will not escalate. If the student continually disrupts the classroom, then I will have to escalate the discipline to an administrator. Motivators: In my classroom, we will have a voucher system in use. If you have all of your homework, you will get a voucher. If you do not receive more than 2 numbers on my chart all week, then you will get a voucher and so forth. Once the students reach 10 vouchers, then they can cash them in for a prize. A prize will include a piece of candy, no homework one night, a free slushie, sit with a buddy at lunch, or hat day. Routines and procedures: Every morning, the students will have morning jobs to complete turn in homework, get 2 sharpened pencils, and make your lunch choice. To start class, I will ring a bell. This will indicate to my students that it is time to put everything away, and it is time to learn. For transitional times, I will set a timer for an appropriate length of time for them to transition. During independent time, I will play classical music to let them know that it is not a talking time but rather a quiet time. Helpers will be assigned every Monday. My helpers will pass out papers and be my line leader/door holder. Before we walk into the hallway, my expectations of good hallway behavior will be repeated Eyes forward and mouths closed. If students do not follow the routines and procedures, then my consequence chart will be implemented, and they will receive a number. My routines and procedures will be taught in detail and length for the first few weeks of school. By the fourth or fifth week of school, I will expect to start backing off my reminders.
