Distributive property is the act to make mental math easier. For example

5(42) What you do is you split up the 42 into 40 + 2. Then you do 5 times 40 which is 200. Next you have to multiply 5 x 2 which is 10. Finally you add those two numbers up and you would get in this case 210.

ASSOCIATIVE PROPERTY OF ADDITION/MULTI.


In Associative property of addition you have the freedom to move the numbers in the parentheses and substitute that number with another number outside of the parentheses in the equations. Ex: 2+(4+4)= 10 Using Associative property: 4+(2+4)=10 In Associative property of multiplication you have the freedom to move the numbers in the parentheses and substitute that number with another number outside of the parentheses in the equations. Ex: 2(4 X 4)=32 Using Associative property: 4(2 x 4)= 32

COMMUTATIVE PROPERTY OF ADD/MULTI


In the commutative property of addition you are allowed to change the order of the numbers and it does not change the sum. Ex: 3 + 5=5 + 3 It is the same thing with commutative property of multiplication Ex: 2 x 6-=6x 2

SIMPLIFYING EXPRESSIONS
4(7x 3) + 2x First you use the distributive property by multiplying 4 times 7x which leaves you with 28x and then multiply 4 times 3 which is 12. You next right the equation 28x 12 + 2x and you combine like terms. So that leaves you with 30x 12 and that is the simplest form in the equation

NECESSARY STEPS TO SOLVE AN EQUATION


7x 10 9x = -13 First you combine like terms to get and you get -2x. So the new equation is 2x 10 = -13. Now it is a 2 step equation. So you add 10 which cancels out the 10 before the equal sign so therefore what every you do to one side you have to do to the other, so you would add 10 to -13 and you would get -3. Then it turns into a 1 step equation which is -2x = -3. You divide 2x buy 2 which cancels each other out and what you do to one side you must do to the other so you get 1 !. So x= 1 1/2 .

NECESSARY STEPS TO SOLVE A EQUATION


5x/6 + x/3 1/2 = 11/6 First you have to find a common denominator which in this case is 6. You next multiply the numerators by what ever you multiplied the denominators by. The equation then would look like 5x + 2x 3 = 11. You now add the like terms 5x and 2x to get 7x and now the equation looks like 7x 3 = 11 you now subtract 3 from 11 to get 8 so 7x = 8 then you divide 8 into 7 and get x = .875

EXPLAIN HOW TO GRAPH INEQUALITIES


2 " x/-5 First you have to multiply -5 to -5 which cancels each other rout and then what you do on one side you have to do to the other side. So you have to multiply 2 and -5 together which leaves you with -10. Then you have to switch the sign because when every you bring over a negative you have to switch the sign. So your inequality should look like x " -10. Then when you graph you have to make a number line with -10 on it and 0 on it. Also when ever you have a greater than or less than sign the circle on the number is not filled in because it is not part of the solution, but when you have a greater than or equal to or a less than or equal to the circle is always filled in because it is part of the solution. SOLVING AND GRAPHING INEQUALITIES


-4x + 4 # -8 First you have to subtract 4 from 4 which cancels each other out and what you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other side of the equation. So you have to subtract 4 from -8 which leaves you with -12. Now the problem turns into a one step equation which is -4x # -12. Next you undo the multiplication by dividing -4 by -4 which cancels each other out. Then you divide -12 by -4 which leaves you with 3. Now your equation looks like x " 3. Then you must graph it.
