Music Poster Analysis

Music Poster: this poster is entitled 'Sea of Science' after one of the many seas crossed in the 1968 animated feature film 'Yellow Submarine', others being the Sea of Time, the Sea of Monsters and the Sea of Nothing. The Beatles, John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, this pop art style print like the ones done by Andy Warhol (who did other prints like marlin Monroe) and Roy Lichtenstein, is ideal for a serious yet fun look that the Beatles had, and using the colours red, blue, orange and green means that each individual stands out, and maybe the colours are even related to their personalities that people can relate to. They are all using direct address to communicate to the audience this means that they are looking directly at the audience and although they havent got any eyes the images still manage to follow you around the poster. They all have moustaches and this was because of the era of music that they were I the hippy, just go with the flow period; they were adapting to their surroundings and making themselves more relatable to the people that were listening to their music at the time. This helped them to build up a fan base and create followers that were dedicated to their music.

I like this poster because I like the way that they have made all four members into their own caricatures and yet they have done it in a way that makes them still recognisable to the fans they were the celebrities of their time and this made them icons and gave them a sense of immortality. The text at the bottom is The Beatles logo the elongated T just breaks the typical rules of a font by changing its x height and makes it different and changes the way that the audience read the text; it has become a well-known font and has been used for every piece of promotional material produced by the Beatles. At the bottom there is also all the information that is typically found on a poster, like the website and other contact information that allows the people to get in touch although they arent visible on this print they still can be seen in the weak fallow areas of the poster where the eye goes to last after scanning the rest of the image first.
