Music Poster Analysis

Music Poster: The 1973 Album from Pink Floyd ' The Dark Side of the Moon ' is possibly their best known album; one of the best-selling albums of all time, staying in the American charts for around fourteen years. I think that this along with the album is some of the greatest graphical artwork ever because it is simple but complex at the same time. The whole prism idea was ingenious and they have made it look like the prism is in space therefore relating to the title of the album The Dark Side of the Moon. There is a good contrast between the dark background and the reflected spectrum of light light becuase it stands out well, and there isnt any text on this poster or the album so you cant judge them on the certain typeface they use. They have also centred the image to give it more impact because its right in the middle of your vision. It plays on the fact that the moon reflects light that passes through it to give it the glow that we can see. When this album was released in 1972 Richard Nixon had ordered the start of the space shuttle program and this could be a gimmick that is marking the first walk on the moon and mans journey back into space to discover whats in the darkness. Apollo 16 lands on the moon where the Lunar Rover is tested by astronauts John W Young and Charles M Duke, and Apollo 17 lands on the moon and the last men to walk on the moon are Harrison Schmitt and Eugene Cernan. So the album is depicting the men landing on the moon and its the start of the space race.
