Theme 4 Organizational Change An organization is not a static entity; its not a monolith that exists independent of any external

l or internal forces. Any organization that acts under these assumptions is likely to quickly fail. Organizations are evolving entities, separate from the people who form them, but also consistently under their influence. Organizations are constantly modified by people both external and internal to the company, sometimes intentionally and sometimes unintentionally. Working in the field of human resources (HR), it pays to be aware of this organizational change, the impact it can have, and how to affect these types of changes to a company. This idea became one of the primary themes that I gathered from my time in the training and development program. It can often be difficult to create change within an organization as people tend to feel comfortable with the status quo the way things have always been done. Whether it refers to a manufacturing or distribution process thats not the most profitable or a policy that may be considered offensive, there is generally some form of resistance to a change within a company. However, overcoming this resistance to create small changes can often add up to large changes that alter an organizations culture. Apart from the board of directors and similar high-level executives, human resources is the department most responsible the culture of a company. They provide training, enforce standards, and promote the belief system of the organization throughout the company. In this role, its useful for an HR employee to understand different methods for creating organizational change and the positive impact that organizational change can bring. One class within the training and development program was solely devoted to organizational change, but it often appeared more frequently as a minor theme. The purpose of training, at its core, is to create an organizational change. Some department or group is not operating at peak proficiency and training is designed to alter and alleviate the issue. One of the primary functions of human resources is to create and manage organizational change. Its an important theme that was discussed frequently over the life of this program.
