Katelynn Price Professor Bolton English 101 5 November 2013 Annotated Bibliography What do you think the leading cause of car wrecks is? Studies show that electronic distractions in cars cause people to crash. In the story Drive to Distraction, a driver, unnamed, killed a cyclist due to a virtual space pet. The virtual space pet was an electronic toy that was on the end of a keychain. While driving down a fast, twisted mountainside, the virtual pet began to beep very loudly. The passenger of the car became frantic because of the loud noise the electronic toy was making in the car. In efforts to turn the beeping off and save the virtual pet from dying, the driver took their eyes off the road. Moving at a high speed, the car soon ran out of the lane and toward a group of bicyclist. Shortly after, one bicyclist was dead, and another was injured. Essentially, the electronic key chain became a fatal distraction. Our society is put into dangerous situations every time someone drives on the highway because of electronics inside of cars. Many authors have discussed how electronics should not be allowed inside of cars. Electronic distractions are the leading cause of car wrecks, therefore to prevent car wrecks from happening; electronics should not be permissible inside cars. My research paper will support the concept that driving distractions should not be allowed in cars. This annotated bibliography serves as the foundation of my research paper.

Essentially, the article is on a school database, which is reliable. The publisher is a trustworthy source because it has published many other scholarly articles and is on an academic reading level. I will be able to use the article Driving Safety for Teens in my research paper because it will give me my arguing statements. I can easily quote the things the source says about technology beginning in cars. Ultimately, the source also focuses on wrecks from distracted driving and ways to prevent wrecks from happening. The recommendation part of my argument is provided in the text because the article says for the electronics not to be allowed for use in cars. The opinions of students, drivers, passengers, and doctors are given throughout the film. The film tells stories to make the argument of not using electronic while in cars persuasive. I can use the film on demand throughout my research paper because it offers different opinions about electronics in cars. The film will provide examples of how multitasking can be dangerous. A study in the film shows that when texting while driving *you+ are 8 times more likely to wreck (Meridian Education and MotionMasters). The film will be the foundation of reasons to not allow electronics in cars. Kiesbye, Stefan. Distracted Driving. Farming Hills: Greenhaven Press, 2012. Print. In the book Distracted Driving, the main focus is on distracted driving. According to the results of multiple studies, socializing on the road. . . *is+ a fast growing habit (Kiesbye 11). Drivers take their eyes off the road to type in a destination and end up hitting the car in front of them. Distracted Driving pushes for a law against people driving with d istractions in the car. The book supports the causation of my research paper. Initially, the cause of most wrecks is distracted driving.

The source Distracted Driving is credible because it uses many statistics from police databases. The level of the context is written for academic readers. Also, the work was published last year and the publishing company is a common name in academic books. Most importantly, the book is scholarly. The book Distracted Driving will help support the argument in my thesis statement. Many statistics are given about how many people own cell phones and how many people use them while driving. It is scary evidence that 34% of teen texters ages 16 -17 say they have texted while driving (Kiesbye11). Ling, Richard. The Mobile Connection : The Cell Phone's Impact on Society. Morgan Kaufmann, 2004. eBook Collection (EBSCOhost). EBSCO. Web. 29 Oct. Most importantly, chapters three and five help support the thesis of my research paper. Cell phones can be harmful while in cars because drivers have to urge to send text messages or make phone calls. The argument supports the fact that electronics are a distraction to vehicle operators. On the other hand, the security and safety a cell phone provides can be the claim of my counterargument. The safety an electronic phone provides fairly shows the point of view of people that trust in electronics inside of cars. Paepcke, Jon. 13 INVESTIGATES: Laptops causing wrecks for Alabama officers. Alabamas 13 WVTM-TV. 11 Mar. 2013. Web. 16 Oct. 2013. Police in Alabama have been involved in many crashes. This is the cause of electronic devices in the cop cars. While the police officers are driving they are using GPS, radios, cell phones, and laptops to type in data of vehicles. A research was done to show that when police officers wreck it is mostly related to electronics in the cars. Before technology was a part of everyday life, there were not many wrecks, but now with the added technology, come added driving hazards (Paepcke). Now, a technology device is used to disable the use of laptops when the car is moving over 15 miles per hour. The news website is credible. The article is published in a reputable journal. The research results are credible because they came from a police database. The article is relevant because it talks about the hazards of electronics. The website is also maintained by an organization. The work was published the year of 2013 and has quotes from current police officers. I can use the website in my research because it talks about how hazardous electronics can be. The article supports the fact that car wrecks are caused by electronics that distract

people. Police officers have had many wrecks because of laptops, cell phones, and radios. The website provides evidence and statistics. Also, the main purpose is that electronics should not be used in cars while the car is moving. The purpose corresponds with my research paper topic. In conclusion, electronics inside of cars are dangerous and cause distractions. Distracted driving is the leading cause of wrecks which ends in fatalities. Electronics should simply not be permissible inside of cars while they are in motion.
