OMICRON PTL
1 General information
The ABB REL670 XRIO converter is designed for testing ABB REL670 distance protection relays by using the OMICRON Test Universe 2.3 software. The converter provides all necessary data for testing the distance protection functions (see section 2) of the REL670 relays. The converter is tested with the following relay: ABB REL670 V1.1 A32 IEC
Note: This converter is tested with the relay described above. It may work with similar ABB distance protection relays, too.
4 Software requirements
To use this converter, you must have a valid license for the OMICRON Test Universe 2.30 software.
5 Functional range
The ABB REL670 XRIO converter implements the following functions: 21 Impedance Protection(quadrilateral) (PDIS,21), (PDIR), (RDIR) Backup Overcurrent Protection(PIOC,50), (PIOC,50N), (PTOC,51/67), (PTOC,51N/67N) Switch onto fault (SOTF) Some of the functions listed above use the RIO interface of the Test Universe software. Consequently, the test modules are configured automatically without using LinkToXRIO. The following functions are using the RIO interface: 21 Impedance Protection(quadrilateral) 50 Backup overcurrent Protection For testing the other functions, you must use LinkToXRIO.

After exporting the relay settings from the relay software, open the option "Import relay settings" in XRIO Converter. Select the Standard Filter for XRIO files and open the settings file to import the relay settings into the XRIO Converter.
Figure 3: Select the Standard Filter for XRIO Files After the relay settings have been imported successfully, a message box showing the number of imported parameters appears.
Figure 4: Report after successful parameter import Additionally, the imported parameters are shown as Information in the Error View of the Test Object. When the import of a parameter fails, it gets shown as an error or warning in the Error View.
9 Converter structure
The converter is divided into two sections: the REL670 section and the RIO section. Both sections consist of several function blocks. The converter comes up in the standard view; the RIOplus section and the template controller section can only be seen in the advanced view.
OMICRON PTL
This block is divided into following subsections: 9.1.2.1 General Information General information block contains information important for the test report like Device model or serial number. 9.1.2.2 Relay information (advanced view) This block has been added for relay specific parameters such as tolerances which cannot be set by the user, because they are constant values. All values set in this block can be found in the chapter "Technical Data" of the relay's documentation. Typically, these blocks do not have to be changed, as they are already set to the values given in the user manual of the relay. 9.1.2.3 Hardware Configuration The Hardware Configuration contains information on usage of analog modules which can be set in the Signal Matrix, Hardware Configuration and ACT (CAP531) tools of the PCM600 software. The information which has to set is witch of the analog modules and its channels was used as input for distance and overcurrent protection 9.1.2.4 Relay Configuration (ACT/CAP531) This block contains configuration details which can be found in the ACT/CAP531 tool of the PCM600 like standard conditions used for distance protection zones or usage of multipliers for overcurrent protection. 9.1.2.5 Circuit Breaker Information This subsection stores data important for the CB configuration RIO block section and CB trip time tests.
9.1.5 RIO
The RIO section of the converter contains all specialized RIO functions which are needed to use the more specialized test modules (like Advanced Distance or Overcurrent) provided by the OMICRON Test Universe software. Warning: Do not change any values in this section. The values have been set using the relay settings of the Relay Parameter Section. Note: Do not activate the former test object view in the advanced mode of the XRIO test object. Changing parameters in this view will disable formulas in the RIO section. 9.1.5.1 Device This Block contains general data, to describe the Test Object, e.g. Name, Manufacturer, Bay, Substation. Also this block contains the nominal values of current and voltage transformer and the maximum values for the CMC currents and voltages
9.1.5.2 Distance This RIO Distance function provides the necessary values for testing the distance protection functions of the REL670 relay with the Advanced Distance test module. The protection functions supported by this RIO function include: 21 Distance quadrilateral The following RIO function for testing these distance protection functions is available: Distance 9.1.5.3 Overcurrent forward direction This RIO overcurrent function provides the necessary values for testing the overcurrent protection functions of the REL670 relay with the Overcurrent test module. The protection functions supported by this RIO function include: Overcurrent (OC) The following RIO function for testing these overcurrent protection functions is available: Overcurrent 9.1.5.4 Overcurrent reverse direction This RIO overcurrent function provides the necessary values for testing the overcurrent protection functions of the REL670 relay with the Overcurrent test module. The protection functions supported by this RIO function include: Overcurrent (OC) The following RIO function for testing these overcurrent protection functions is available: Overcurrent
