Certain heavy metals can pose potential health risks when consumed by humans due to their high toxicity. Heavy metals such as
mercury, lead and cadmium can be released into the environment through industrial use and erosion of natural deposits and once
released can contaminate water, soil and air(Jarup.,2003).It is important that we have a sensor that can detect those metals.
Some of the peptides that have been applied in metal detection systems were Cys-Pro-Gly-His-Glu (Joshi and Lee., 2008) and
GGDGGDGGDGGDGG (White and Holcombe., 2007) where G is Glycine and D is Aspartic Acid. New peptide for sensor
development that will be synthesized is a combination of Glycine and Serine and combined with fluorophore Dansyl (Dns) at N-
terminal of Glycine. The expected Dns-GSGS will be used to detect metals by monitoring the fluorescence properties.
