Approach to a Jaundiced Neonate

Is the jaundice physiological or non-physiological? If non-physiological how severe is the jaundice? Does it warrant investigations and/or admission? What is the likely etiology? Is there a co-existing illness? (e.g. infection, dehydration) Is there any evidence of encephalopathy? How should the baby be followed up after hospital discharge? How do I counsel parents to prevent jaundice?
