ular career in today"s society# $t"s also a %ob that can be stressful and that"s &hy it ta'es a s!ecial !erson to be able to handle the !ressures of being a nurse# There"s so (uch care and tragedy behind the scenes in hos!itals that &e don"t see or hear about# $ !ersonally &ouldn"t ha e 'no&n this &ithout hearing of the e)!eriences that 3* year old, +elanie Griffin, has had throughout her 1, years of being nurse# +elanie is tall, has short, blonde hair, and loo's rather young for her age, so $ &asn"t e)!ecting to hear that she had already had so (any years of e)!erience# +elanie has &or'ed &ith children at Kosair -hildren"s .os!ital through the entire duration of her career# /he only &or's !art ti(e though, that &ay she has (ore ti(e to be at ho(e &ith her 'ids# +elanie"s aunt &as also a nurse and +elanie &anted to follo& in her aunt"s footste!s# That"s the biggest reason &hy she is &here she"s at today# +elanie says that she has as!ired to be a nurse for as long as she can re(e(ber, e en since she &as a young child# 0$ really also %ust li'e the feeling of hel!ing !eo!le,1 stated +elanie# /he graduated fro( Eastern Kentuc'y 2ni ersity after , years and earned her 3/N degree and she later earned her -4N degree fro( &or'# 5side fro( the 6ualifications she had to earn fro( college, she also had to go through 2 years of clinicals# 5ll of this !re!ared her ery &ell and ga e her the ability to learn ho& to ti(e (anage better# 0There are (any things $ &as taught in the real &orld though that $ &as ne er taught in school,1 +elanie infor(ed (e, 0li'e certain !rocedures and the best &ays to interact &ith different ty!es of !atients#1 +elanie e)!lained ho& heart7&renching it can be seeing sic' or hurt children co(ing in and out

Griffin 2 of the hos!ital all the ti(e, then, contradicting that, also e)!lained ho& re&arding it is to see 'ids co(e in and lea e healthy# 0$" e seen (any children co(e in &ith cancer and &atched the( go through their che(o treat(ents and &al' out cancer free,1 she said %oyfully# 8hen $ as'ed her if there &as e er anything to (a'e her 6uestion beco(ing a nurse she ans&ered %o'ingly, 09inals:1 and then &ent on to say that so(e of the !eo!le she &or's &ith are ery agitating and a lot of the !hysicians can be ery rude and unnecessarily bossy# +elanie chose Kosair because she absolutely lo es &or'ing &ith children# /he tal'ed about ho& they are (uch funner to &or' &ith than adults and its (ore re&arding to see the( bounce bac' fro( an illness, but, &or'ing &ith children is also a lot harder than &or'ing &ith adults# 0/o(e children don"t get to return ho(e to their fa(ilies or ha e to go through their hos!ital isit alone because of abuse or neglect,1 +elanie told (e# 5lso, e eryone 'no&s children can be difficult to 'ee! under control and do not al&ays &ant to listen# 0$t can be ery easy to get attached to so(e of the !atients,1 +elanie e)!lained to (e, 0but as you (eet (ore and (ore !atients it gets easier to (o e on#1 /he told (e of a fe& !atients she &ouldn"t e er forget though# One in !articular &as a little girl that &as only a fe& (onths old# /he had co(e bac' to the hos!ital (ore than once because of abuse and +elanie &as the nurse assigned to care for her# 0$ &ould" e ta'en her ho(e if $ could ha e:1 e)clai(ed +elanie# The baby ended u! in foster care and +elanie says she still thin's about her all the ti(e# +elanie o!ened (y eyes to the fact that you do lose (any !atients, but you are also hel!ing (a'e a !ositi e difference in their li es e eryday# 5s of no& $"( !lanning on !ursuing a nursing career and +elanie hel!ed to reassure (e that $ &ill really en%oy it# 5side fro( seeing !eo!le being hurt or ery ill, $ &ill be able to recei e the incenti e of feeling good for (y deeds $"ll do as nurse, %ust as +elanie does#
