2013 Experiential Learning: Arvindram Krishnamoorthy When we discussed our interests and goals, Arvin seemed really eager to branch out and experience new activities. His intended major is computer science; however, hes also interested in other areas as well. Although the primary major he aims for is comp-sci, other majors he is open to include electrical engineering and business. He wants to find research opportunities and chances for leadership. Arvin is really enthusiastic on trying unique activities. He also hopes to have multiple and diverse skills in all areas. For example, he wants to try different sports such as martial arts. He wants to learn skills that might be useful in the future such as dancing, woodworking, and cooking. Besides refining and learning new skills, he is also interested in studying abroad, particularly around Northern Europe. I would advise him to join various clubs in order to achieve some of his basic skills that he would like to learn. There are martial arts clubs in University of Washington such as Kung Fu and Tai Chi Club. As his intended major is computer science, I would say look up research opportunities through the UW research database. Since many opportunities require the student to have prior knowledge, it would be practical to take classes that are geared towards computer science and complete prerequisites in order to have the best chance. Furthermore, the computer science website for the University of Washington offers many opportunities and the requirements that should be fulfilled. The website can be a good resource for organizing a path towards majoring in computer science and gaining outside experience in that field. There are also a lot of good opportunities on the Foster School of Business website. The website actually includes a

Lin 2 link to a roadmap for freshman and sophomore that can be very useful if he decides to head towards business instead. More specifically, as he is interested in study broad in Northern Europe, an opportunity that would match this interest would be a study abroad program in Sweden. Currently, the computer science department offers an exchange program in Stockholm, Sweden for undergraduates. The student would get to experience studying in KTH Royal Institute of Technology. This would fit perfectly since he wants to go somewhere in Northern Europe and hes also interested in majoring in Computer Science. The deadline to submit is April 15th. He can also apply to become an undergraduate teacher assistant in the computer science department for leadership experience.
