SCHOOL GOALS

The Review focused on the following goals that were set by the school:

Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment


Goals:

Focus Area #2:

1. English Language Learners will improve one CELDT level. There is a need to work on differentiation as low test scores especially among EL students indicate a need for more differentiated support in content areas.
2. All students will improve in their CST scores. Develop a system to document the progress of students' growth.

Professional Development and Improvement Goals:

Focus Area #3:

1. Implementation of professional development will be monitored for implementation and


improvement of student achievement.

2. New teachers will be supported by mentor teachers.

3. Administrationwill provide more observation and review of faculty with structured plans for improvement from those not performing to expectations.

Goals:

1. A clear, consistent school-wide Positive Behavior Plan will be created and implemented.
2. There will be a clear focus on EL students. All departments will persistently try to accommodate these students with services in order to improve student achievement. Services will include tutoring during advisory or projects' periods, scaffolding strategies, more student voice and opportunities to think before they are asked to speak.

Summary of Concerns Regarding Civitas School of Leadership


I. Progress toward goals is not evident for all 8 goals (listed below) that were set based on the June 2011 Pilot School Review. All areas were rated a 1 (Area of Concern) on the Pilot
School Review Rubric.

Civitas Goals

Focus Area #2: Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

II. Sixteen out of twenty two staff members feel that the instructional program is

challenging. The Steering Committee did not seeevidence ofachallenging and rigorous
instructional program.

HI. Twelve out of twenty two staff members feel that students arecapable of high
achievement on standardized exams. This indicates low expectations and a belief that
the students are not capable of learning.

IV. The Steering Committee and staffagree that the school discipline policy is not
effectively implemented.

V. The staff feels the principal is doing a good job leading the school. However, there is
conflicting information from the staff regarding supervision of instruction, feedback regarding teaching, sharing of the vision, action plans to reach goals and a system regarding progress toward goals.

Next Steps:

School will submit to the Steering Committee by April 18,2012

1. Plan of action (withbenchmark assessment indicators) to address the goals set by the
school and concerns set forth in this document.

2. Specific plan the school will implement April to June and July to June 2013 to reach their
goals and implement their plan.

3. Evidence (quantitative and qualitative) of progress toward goals this year.


4. Their recommendations to the Pilot Schools Steering Committeeregarding next steps for

theirschool following the committee's receipt of the above requested information.
