Part VIIII: Learning Environment A. Classroom Management It is very important to create a positive environment inside your classroom.

Having a positive environment allows students to express their selves without worrying about what others think of them or worrying about the teacher downgrading them or thinking the answer or question is not important. In my classroom, the classroom will always be positive. Out of control behavior will not tolerated and will be punished according to school policy and to my classroom policy. Bullying will not be tolerated. In my classroom, collaborative learning and cooperative learning will be used a great deal to enhance students knowledge as well as getting students to know and appreciate each others answers. We will do jigsaw groups occasionally and test reviews will be always be some form of a game. I will encourage group work activities as much as possible however, individual assignments will also be necessary to ensure students are learning the material presented.

Rules for my Classroom: 1. Raise your hand before speaking. 2. Do not get out of your chair unless the teacher has given you permission. 3. Please do not talk when someone else is talking. 4. We will respect and value each others opinions. 5. There is no such thing as a dumb question. Please ask if you do not understand something!

Behavior Consequences: First Offense: You will be asked to stop what you are doing and pay attention. Second Offense: We will speak privately to the side of the classroom. Third Offense: You will be written-up. (dermits) Fourth and Final Offense: You will be sent to the office and a note will be sent home to your parent. ***If an offense is beyond control of the teacher, proper action will be taken. (Sent to the Resource Officer or Sent to the Office immediately)

Other Rewards and Incentives: Each week, the teacher will pick a Student of the Week. This student will be someone who has been exceptional in their classwork as well as in partnership. This student will be someone who has kept up with their work, came to class prepared, volunteered to answer questions, and showed overall positive charter towards other individuals in the classroom. This student will be awarded with a certificate (which will hang on the classroom door), a pencil, a homework pass, and candy. At the end of a unit, any student who has been selected as Student of the Week will receive 5 extra points on a test! Good behavior, good manners, and friendly and respectful behavior will earn this award. *The teacher reserves the right to have one or more Student of the Week* B. Non-Instructional Routines and Procedures Class will begin each day as soon as the bell rings. When the bell rings, students are expected to immediately take their seat, take out their journals and begin the bell ringer which will be listed on the White Board or on the Promethean Board. Students will have 5 minutes to complete the activity. Journals will be taken up every 2 weeks to ensure that students are doing their work. They will be graded based on a rubric. *See attached Rubric* Materials will be collected based on the seating arrangement. Students will be instructed to pass their papers up and to the right. The last person should collect all the papers and turn them in to the instructor. Materials will be given out by the instructor or by another student dependent upon what the assignment is. All graded work will be returned upside down so that no one can see someone elses grade. Student helpers will be based off of who is my Student of the Week. The Student of the Week is the helper for the teacher. He/she will also run errands if needed before and after class. No one will be allowed to leave the room once class has started except for emergencies. Bathroom breaks will be allowed only at the end of class if all work has been completed. You are expected to go to the bathroom before class. However, the teacher understands that there are some situations that are out of your control and those will be handled accordingly. You are asked to sharpen your pencil before class begins. Please be quick and do not talk while you are sharpening your pencil. Class does not end until the bell rings or the announcements start. When the announcements start, all talking should cease. Also, the teacher asks that students do not get up before the bell rings or line up at the door. In case of an emergency, it would be extremely hard for everyone to get out if everyone is lined up at the door. You are to remain in your seat until the bell rings every day. In case of an emergency, we will follow the rules laid out by the school. The teacher will also take an attendance sheet to make sure all students are accounted for with any drill or a real emergency.
