The attention span of primary aged children is so short that it has been an adjustment for Matthew since he is coming from a fifth grade classroom environment. He is becoming more aware of how important it is to be well prepared for each lesson so that the students will flow from one lesson to the next. The anticipatory set and closure are two important components of each lesson that Matthew is working on.

Matthew is do fine with disciplining the students. I would like to see more attention getters suited for young learners used in the classroom (clicker, timer, sayings, pattern clapping).

Matthew is very capable of leading the class. Once again the students are very young and Matthew needs to closely monitor the students to make sure they remain on task (following directions).

Matthew presents himself in a professional manner. Although, he is quiet, he communicates well when needed. He has a positive outlook on his student teaching assignment. He stated that teaching first grade has been an adjustment; however, he is embracing it very well. He is receptive to suggestions and tries to implement new ideas.
