Its been more than week after the Typhoon Haiyan hit Tacloban, Philippines. In this past week the number of deaths rose to 3,631. There are in numbers of 12,487 injured, and at least 1,179 people were missing. In Tacloban city there is hungry people, sick people, and thirsty people searching for the loved ones they one saw sitting on the couch of their homes. The air is humid and smells like decomposing bodies of the dead. Some are lucky though, they have a connection with the land. They are surviving in improvised shelters and living off coconut juice while they await aid relief from Germany and many other countries. Ships keep coming to pick up survivors for relocation as well as planes. However, they can only fit so many people. Some people, who would normally have been an active effort to help in this scenario, were unable to. The Philippian navy had to cling to their barracks during this one just to stay alive. There has also been a good amount of violence that has hit the streets including rapes against women. The U.S military thinks that violence is less of an issue to be concerned with than the blocked and crowded streets. If I were to be in this scenario and would have survived I would most definitely use whatever knowledge on survival technique I could. I know natives from much of the Philippines used coconuts for a great source of water and electrolytes. Building shelters is a great thing to have knowledge on because it keeps you out of the elements. Survival is 90 percent psychology. They more that you can do to keep rebuilding then the better you have at a future life. Sooner or later things will have to be rebuilt. I feel a deep sense of emotion for people in these scenarios because they didnt ask for this to happen. This is just the mother trying to tell us something.
