ANNOUNCEMENT

ANNOUNCEMENT This issue concludes the 2013 series of Kentucky Pest News (KPN) and marks the end of the 38th year of inclusion of disease information in KPN. The major objective has been to provide timely information on anticipated and occurring diseases in Kentucky. Any comments (favorable or critical) readers may have regarding KPN (i.e., format, subject matter, coverage, timeliness, etc.) may be directed to KPN authors: Don Hershman, Paul Vincelli, Kenneth Seebold and Nicole Ward Gauthier, Extension Plant Pathologists; and Julie Beale and Brenda Kennedy, Plant Disease Diagnosticians. These authors greatly appreciate the efforts of colleagues who have also authored topics in KPN. The first 2014 issue of KPN will be Tuesday, January 14. We wish each of our readers a Cheerful Holiday and Peace and Prosperity in 2014.

Diagnostic samples are tapering off as winter weather sets in, but we have seen a few tomato disease samples recently from high tunnel/greenhouse systems, including Botrytis blight, powdery mildew and ripe rot. Disease had developed in structures with poor ventilation and high humidity. We have also seen samples from landscapes, including white rot and coddling moth injury on apple; bacterial leaf scorch on oak; Rhizosphaera needle cast and damage from previous spider mite infestation on spruce.
