ABSTRACT Hypercholesterolemia is an increase in blood cholesterol levels above normal limits. Hypercholesterolemia is a risk factor of coronary heart disease. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a disorder in one or more coronary arteries where there is a thickening of the blood vessel wall (intima) accompanied by atherosclerosis that will clog the coronary artery lumen and eventually will disrupt the flow of blood to the heart muscle resulting in damage and impaired muscle function of the heart. This study is a descriptive study with a design study is a cross sectional and retrospective study in which data collection will be made based on data from medical records of patients. The study population is the entire medical record data in RSUP H.Adam Malik Medan during the period January 1, 2009 through December 31, 2010 who suffer from coronary heart disease, which amounted to 639 people. Study sample was taken with a total sampling method, where the entire population sampled. This study aims to determine the prevalence of hypercholesterolemia in patients with coronary heart disease in RSUP. Haji Adam Malik, Medan in January 2009 December 2010. The result of this study was the incidence of hypercholesterolemia in patients with coronary heart disease as many as 103 people (16.1%), normokolesterolemia are as many as 125 people (19.6%), and are not recorded are as many as 411 people (64.3%). The prevalence of hypercholesterolemia in patients with coronary heart disease increasedfrom 2009 (13.5%) to 2010 (19.2%). In this case the expected necessary to control cholesterol levels which include efforts to change lifestyle and medical order not to fall in coronary heart disease.
