John the Evangelist Catholic School November 5, 2013 Lesson Overview Name: Profile Penalty Hyperlinks in PowerPoint Subject: Computers/Microsoft PowerPoint Grade Level: 7 Standards: Standard 2.16 Use hyperlinks in program applications Standard 2.21 Be able to work with two programs simultaneously Standard 2.14 Explore and apply menu functions across various applications Standard 2.11 Be able to access a specific website by typing in the URL under the direction of the teacher Standard 3.1 Use appropriate software to combine text and graphics Standard 5.10 Identify appropriate kinds of information that should/should not be shared online (e.g. chat rooms, blogs, games, etc.) Objectives Student(s) will Continue using k8 computer connections learning environment to watch instructional videos and complete assignments Explore and apply menu functions of Microsoft PowerPoint Create a PowerPoint slideshow that shows the dos and donts of creating online profiles Methods Anticipatory Set: Begin by showing students how to navigate k8 computer connections. Explain that k8 computer connections is an environment that they will be using to learn computer applications. Direct Teaching Method (Whole Class): 1. Students will type URL in their internet browser. 2. Guide students to the New User Registration where they will create a username and password. 3. Students will log in. 4. Demonstrate for students how to download assignment instructions for the Internet Safety Profile Penalty PowerPoint 5. Students will download their assignment instructions. 6. Instruct students to watch the Profile Penalty video from Netsmartz, the Profile Penalty Hyperlinks in PowerPoint screencast, and then start the assignment. Guided Practice (Individual Students): 1. Assist students in logging in, navigating k8 computer connections, and saving their assignment directions. 2. Assist students in uploading their completed assignment to k8 computer connections. Independent Practice: 1. Students work independently to complete their assignment. 2. Students develop answers to the Profile Penalty questions after watching the Netsmartz Profile Penalty video. 3. Students create hyperlinks in their presentation to link the questions with their answers. 4. Encourage students to watch the screencast more than once, if necessary, to complete the assignment. Student Assessment/Reflections: 1. Completion of Question & Answer PowerPoint that has been uploaded to k8 computer connections.

2. Discussions with teacher and classmates regarding use of k8 computer connections and assignment likes/dislikes. 3. Sharing of Question & Answer presentations.
