December 10th, 2013 To Whom It May Concern: I would like to recommend Jon Chao to your program. I have worked and supervised Jon for eleven years at Prescott Elementary. Prescott Elementary is a school of approximately 400 students with about 85% of those students on free and reduced lunch. In addition, about 30% are students learning English as a second language. Jon has works as an educational assistant at Prescott and fulfills many roles. Jons strength has been his ability to form strong relationships with students. Jon works well with students of all grades. Jon has done very well developing his skills as a literacy support teacher. Jon works with students at varying levels and abilities and has always demonstrated growth in his skills as a teacher of literacy. Jons consistent effort has made a difference for many students. Jon has also served as a Playworks Coach the past two years. Jon has played a role in supporting structured play on our playgrounds. This includes weekly lessons on game rules. This has required Jon to expand his teaching strategies to reach students Kindergarten through 5th grade. Jon has grown as a teacher in this area as well. He has been part of multiple trainings over the year to focus efforts on improving the structure of play at Prescott. Jon has learned how to effectively facilitate reading groups. He is responsible for delivering instruction support to students who are struggling with reading skills. This has required Jon to develop stronger management skills with students, and have an understanding of effective strategies to support students who are struggling to read. He is proficient in facilitating Running Record and benchmarking assessments to determine student progress. Another admirable strength of Jon is his growth as professional. Jon has always shown effort to be better at his work, and it has shown in his performance. He is always willing to support the team for the betterment of students. His professionalism is something I know will help him as he moves forward in his career. Jon is a great role model for students and his peers.
