_______________________ Prepare the following recipe at home. You may half it if you desire. Bring one sample of the cookies you made to class for credit along with the bottom part of this paper signed by parent or guardian. Please be sure to clean up your kitchen afterwards. Best Sugar Cookies 2 1/4 cups flour 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 1/2 cup shortening 1/2 cup butter 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup powdered sugar 1 egg 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Cream shortening, butter and sugars. Stir in egg and vanilla. Add sifted ingredients and mix well. Roll in 1 inch balls. Bake at 375 for 6 to 8 minutes. Yield: 3 dozen cookies.
