Educational technology facilitators promote the development and implementation of technology infrastructure, procedures, policies, plans, and budgets for P-12 schools.

Technology Procedures, Planning, & Budgeting


GOAL: To learn more about how your school plans and budgets for technology. How
is technology used and maintained in your building?

TASK: Interview a school technology facilitator or any person within your building that
can provide you with the answers you require.

Requirements:
1. You can video or audio record your interview. If you choose this method, please identify the parties you are interviewing at the start of the recording. 2. You may choose to type out the responses of your interviewee as well. If you choose this method, be sure to obtain a picture of your interviewee along with the information in the table below. 3. If the interviewee gives a vague response, ask additional questions to prompt them to elaborate on the topic. If they are lacking knowledge on certain questions, find a 2nd interviewee that can provide an adequate answer.

8 years of Teaching Experience Took technology classes while getting his Bachelors in Education. Has is Masters in Education and pursuing his principalship. He has a natural love for technology and technology advancement. He is constantly researching new technology to that will benefit students and their learning. He has attended many Professional Development classes provided by the district (i.e, web design, educational apps, Successmaker, Study Island, E-learning, using ipods and ipads in the classroom, etc.

1. How are teachers in our building using the school technology facilities and resources to implement classroom instruction? a. SMARTboards, clickers, online formative and summative assessments, web based learning programs, learning.com, e-learning, Success Marker

2. What types of productivity tools are used within our building? (Examples: Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Evernote, Dropbox, Class Dojo, Class Maker, Remind 101, Cel.ly, Weebly) a. Microsoft Office, Dropbox, Class Dojo, Sky drive pro, Infinite Campus 3. What software is the most widely used to deliver instruction in the classrooms? a. SMART boards, speakers, projectors, document cameras, ipads, ipods, wireless internet connection 4. What resources are available to your teachers for incorporating multimedia into their lessons? a. SMART boards, Elmos, speakers, projectors, Airliners, Clicker response system, ipads, ipods, cameras, flip cameras, wireless internet connection 5. What technology is available to the school to use as a management tool? (Video surveillance with software, Id scanners for guests, Grading software, Class Dojo, Lanschool or Synchroneyze, Edmodo, Moodle, Blackboard, etc.) a. Dropbox, CASCADE, Infinite Campus 6. What tools are currently being used in your school for evaluation or portfolio purposes? (Any technology tool that teachers use to assess a students understanding of a concept or a tool used to display student work electronically.) Voicethread, Edmodo, Moodle, Prezi, etc a. Edmodo is used in our district, but not at our school at this present time. 7. Does your school offer any computer based instruction courses? If so, explain how the courses work and who takes them. If not, explain what educational resources your school does offer in an online format.(Online courses) a. Success Maker, Study Island 8. What strategies are applied for troubleshooting and maintaining various hardware/software configurations? a. STC, JCPS Tech Support, SMART tech customer service, downloads from the district 9. Explain how our school computer network works. a. We are connected to the local district and state networks (KDE) 10. What strategies do we have in place to ensure that our staff has support personnel to maximize the use of technology resources by administrators and teachers? a. Professional Developments, Technology policies, acceptable use guidelines 11. Explain the procedures and guidelines that are used in planning and purchasing technology resources for the school. a. All purchases must be justified and have to connect to student learning, then is verified through the principal. The principal sends in the purchase request with all bids in order. Purchasing and Accounting can approve or deny the purchase. 12. Based off of your knowledge of current research in technology, what recommendations can you make for the purchasing of instructional software that supports and enhances school curriculum? a. E-learning, web based learning, programs and software that directly address the common core standards, teacher productivity tools 13. Discuss the guidelines used for budget planning and management procedures related to educational computing and technology facilities and resources?

a. The principal and the STC plan for the budget for maintenance (i.e, ink, bulbs, filters, toner, basic repairs), new purchases and renewals of programs that have a yearly fee. Both evaluate the usage of those programs purchased by the school and not the district, if usage is low then it will not be renewed and vice versa. As far as hardware, it is expected that all resources should be used a one time or another. Technology should be included in the lesson plans of the teacher which are reviewed by the principal periodically. 14. Discuss the procedures used for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on the school technology infrastructure. a. Projector cleaning, filter cleaning, constant updating from the state network, put in a HEAT ticket with the district IT dept 15. What does the school or corporation do to ensure that you continue learning about issues related to management of school facilities, technology resources, and purchases? a. Professional Development, support teams, district technology dept, principal, staff members recommendations, STC
