Lesson 16: Reflecting on Spain Objective: The student will be able to use knowledge about warm vs.

cool colors and organic vs. geometric shapes in combination with new knowledge about the work of artist Antoni Gaudi and relief printmaking to create his/her own relief cityscape print. Vocabulary: relief printmaking- a printing technique that involves the artist carving into a surface, rolling ink on top of that surface, and then printing. Only the raised portion will print. (like a stamp) architect- a person who designs buildings and other large structures. geometric shape- a shape that is easy to recognize and has a name. These shapes usually consist of straight lines. organic shape- freeform shapes that do not follow the shape rules and consists of curvy lines. They also dont have names. Artist Inspiration: Antoni Gaudi Antoni Gaudi was a Spanish architect who was a major player in Catalan Modernism. His work was influenced by his passion for nature, religion, and architecture. In his work, he liked to incorporate ceramics, stained glass and wood work. His most famous building is the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in which he used many organic forms.
