1. Engineering Design Central Concepts: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention/innovation, and requires designing, drawing, building, testing, and redesigning. Students should demonstrate the ability to use the engineering design process to solve a problem or meet a challenge.
1.1 Identify and explain the steps of the engineering design process: identify the problem, research the problem, develop possible solutions, select the best possible solution(s), construct prototypes and/or models, test and evaluate, communicate the solutions, and redesign. Identify the problem Research the Redesign problem
Develop solutions
Construct a prototype
Write down the original problem here. Student - Design, build and program a robot to: compete in tug of war Matches.

What did you learn from your research? A _we learned that the robot needs to be Heavy to play tug of war_____________________ B _white batteries are the best for the robot _____________________ C ______________________

Student : Share your ideas with your design team. List your ideas below. 1. ___WE NEED A COMPOUND GEAR_________________________________ 2. __we need a white battery___________________________________ 3. _I think my team needs to make a heavy robot.___________________________________-
Student : Skillfully and imaginatively describe what your first prototype will look like. We are going to make our robot heavy so that it cant Be pulled by any robot . Our robot has one gear four wheels and a low center of Gravity. We plan on gearing the robot with a gear train that uses a small gear on the motor and a large gear on the axle. The prototype that we are using Have one gear four wheel. It will have a white battery and many other parts.
Student: Describe which solution(s) best meet the need or solve the problem. Describe exactly what idea or mixture of ideas your design team decided on for the first robot prototype? Use the next slide for your response. We need a white battery Because it would better for our robot to use A major solution to Our project would be a white battery for our robot
Build a robot with your NXT lego kit Create a computer program for your robot. Use the next slide(s) for the digital pictures of your prototypes and computer programs.

Does your robot work? yes Did it perform as expected? yes What changes are necessary for the robot and the program? White batter Does it meet the original design constraints? Is it safe? Lab work- Modify your robot project and use the next slide to post a picture of your improved robot project.
