Fire destroys transportation company Wolter Koops

Transportation company Wolter Koops in Zeewolde was completely destroyed by fire during the night of Friday to Saturday. The report of the fire came in at half past three. The fire expanded so fast that the fire brigade, which had come with heavy equipment, could not save the building. In the business, amongst others, frozen products and cheese were stored. The flames could be seen for miles around. As a precaution, three houses in the industrial zone Trekkersveld were evacuated. The residents are staying with family. Employees had been able to secure part of the administration before the fire spread to the office. Nobody was injured. It is not known how the fire started. A large amount of smoke was released during the fire. Residents of Zeewolde were not troubled by the smoke. No hazardous substances were released. People who find ashes in their garden, can clean it up themselves, according to the fire brigade. It is recommended to wash hands thoroughly afterwards. The ashes on the Trekkersveld industrial zone will be removed by the municipality. The extinguishing is expected to take all day. In the meantime a stench may be noticed.
