Problem statement
A C-epoxy laminate of the following lay up (90/45/-45/0)s is considered with the following properties: El = 126GP a, Et = 11GP a, Glt = 6.6GP a, lt = 0.28 Xt = 1950M P a, Xc = 1480M P a, Yt = 48M P a, Yc = 200M P a, S = 79M P a, Fxy = 0.5 Using Tsais progressive failure criterion, y vs.y plots were obtained ( as seen in Fig.12 or 13 of his second paper) for the following biaxial tension loading case:

Following degraded properties were taken into account in case of matrix failure: Et = 1.93GP a,Glt = 1.07GP a, lt = 0.042,Xc = 1258M P a, Fxy = 0.08 (With the rest remaining same) and for bre failure all the elastic constants El , Et , Glt andlt were degraded to 1 per cent of the original values.

Results
After applying the Tsais progressive criteria it was seen that The laminate failed in the following sequence: 1. The zero degree ply failed rst and the mode in which it failed is matrix failure 2. Next it was seen that +/- 45 degree ply failed again the mode of failure was matrix failure 3. 90 degree ply failed the mode is matrix failure 4. 90 degree ply failed again, as it is the second failure of the ply. This time the mode is bre failure
