The speakers will use their recent issue of New Directions for Evaluation on man- Meeting
aging evaluation to guide focused discussions on the topic of the professional prac-
tice of managing evaluation units and evaluators. They will engage participants in 3:45 - 4:00 p.m.
clarifying most important understandings, concepts, and practices of the expert
practice of managing evaluation. Participants will also be guided in clarifying what

they think should be the curriculum, pedagogy and learning sites for the mastery of 4:00 - 5:30 p.m.
expert level practice in managing evaluation. The session is intended for two
groups: those now managing evaluation, whether or not they are trained evaluators,
and second, trained evaluators who are not managing. The session is particularly
useful for those who aspire to a role in managing evaluation.

Cost:

Prior to joining the CDC, Don Compton was the Director of Evaluation at the American Can- Members - Free
cer Society for over eight years where he conducted national evaluations and consulted with
national and state-level staff and volunteers on program evaluation.
