A Bangladeshi Christmas

December around the world is usually a time of peace and charity and reflection, yet it was of another nature in Bangladesh. This December was a month of non-stop hartals (political nation-wide strikes) and ever intensifying political violence . Every week day this past month a hartal was called by the opposing political party and as with most hartals many people died each day. According to a website, in the year of 2013 there were upwards of 450 deaths and more than 22,000 people injured as a result of the political violence. Merry Christmas!! All of this violence was a leading up to disputed election on January 5th and of course leading up to Christmas Day. As the month progressed it became more and more apparent Christmastime in Bangladesh our how contrasted the Christmas story is with what is going in the world. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Xt the Lord. ... The Xt-child came to bring salvation and the Christmas accompanying joy and peace to all people. This is what Bangladesh needs! What Party a beautiful contrast with the world. We attempted to share this message with many this past month. One way was that we had an outreach focused Christmas party. We believe it was a big success. Many of our believing friends brought the non -believing friends so that they could here the message. There were so many people (over 60) that we could barely fit people into the apartment. Many nonbelievers heard about the Christmas story and the worlds need for peace. Pr*y with us that this good news of the Saviour would be bound on their heart throughout 2014 and amidst the growing violence in their country. We believe that G is doing this as evidenced by a recent occurrence. A Bangladeshi pastor friend of ours ran a simple, small ad in the classifieds a few days before Christmas advertising that if anybody wanted they could receive a free copy of the New Testament. In only 2 days he received over 1,000 people asking to receive one! PTL! Is there a correlation between the rising violence and Bangladeshis asking for something more?? We think so. We are going to be Our apartment building lit up for helping him follow-up with these people and continue share the GoodNews Christmas time! of the incarnate Savior!

News from the school

At Grace International School it is tradition that each December classes put on a Christmas play. This year, Haleys Year One class did a play called The Gifts. It was about all the gifts that J got when he was born: angels singing, shepherds worshipping him, and the gifts of the wise men. The children explained the significance of the gifts of gold, myrrh, and frankincense and how they pointed to J as the Saviour. The play ended with remembering that Christmas is all about gifts, but actually the greatest gift is Xt. We are so grateful to get to put on a production that so clearly tells the real meaning of Christmas and the truth of J to many non-believing families. Please pray that the truth of Christmas would resonate this year for these families and for the children as they learn more about Js amazing life on earth and that they would choose to love and follow Him.

They will be reaching out to a nearby campus. workers that wed all be bold in sharing the GoodNews when we receive the chance. that our disciples would become disciplemakers Ev*ngelism Weve been really encouraged by some of our disciples. Their passion to share the GoodNews is increasing and they are very eager to learn more about how to share. Ian has recently translated an evangelistic survey that we used to use on campuses in the states, and has taken a couple of his disciples to share using the surveys. Their experiences have been great! It even went better than what we were expecting. One of the first people that they shared with surprised us with his reaction to the hearing the GoodNews. After we shared the GoodNews with him we asked him whether or not he would like to receive this gift of salvation. He manner-of-factly replied, Of course I want to. Ian and his friend were not really expecting that answer. So we went through the GoodNews again and talked with him about what this would mean for his life. After re-hashing through all of it he decided that he needs some more time to learn more. Nevertheless, Praise G! We are excited to follow up with him and see what G does. This served as a good reminder to us how the GoodNews meets people where they are and G is always at work. We can never know how somebody will respond. All we can do is present the message faithfully. We are looking forward to taking our disciples our to share more this next month. Pr*y for our times every week.
