THE ROLE OF YOUTH IN ESTABLISHING UNITY IN A MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY

Youth nowadays becomes more powerful because of the technological advancement and the help of social media. Social issues became more visible because were exposed to them through social media. And I guess it is our role in establishing a unity in a multicultural society. Five hundred years ago, we had been colonializing by the different culture like Spanish, Japanese, and American. In our modern times were also had a mix of culture from Chinese, Korean, Arabian and European when it comes to spirituality, fashion and the way of living. These factors contribute on our unique and special culture which turns us to be more flexible to different culture. And thats the reason being a Filipino born and rise to a multicultural society like ours, being open to the society helps our society to achieve equality. We should admit that being in a country dominated by Catholic region, our brothers from the Muslim tend to think that they should be had an independent government and that is the reasons we had this war in Mindanao. The issue of war against peace which is the recent dispute of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front against the Armed forces of the Philippines in Zamboanga. The war had affect thousands of families in almost half a month. It also reflected on our economies because the Zamboanga government had to cancel the flight in Zamboanga. Some business establishment stopped their operation because of the war. These are the few effects of the war. Well the war shouldve stop if every party considered a peace talk. These kind of incident should have stopped, and being a youth its our duty to be a catalyst for change, we all know that in time, we will become the future leaders of the country. As early as today we should act our way in attaining unity, how? Well it should start on embracing ourselves, if we know and accepted who we are; it became much easier to open ourselves to others. If the times comes that we open our mind and soul to others, acceptance and understanding follows. As a youth, I admit we cant solve complex problems of the society like the war, poverty, corruption, disaster from flush floods and etc. By opening ourselves to the society through involving to some social activities like relief operations, house building project in Gawad Kalinga projects. Even twitting for peace or voicing our ideas and reaction about corruption on tweeter, we could encourage everyone to act on our own ways. The action should be huge; it can be a small little but sincere way for attaining unity. At the end of the day as a youth, involving ourselves to the society and being open to it may help everyone to unity, it should start on accepting everyone and even self-acceptance.
