"Lincoln's Gamble: How the Emancipation Proclamation Changed the Course of the Civil War, 2014. Print. Lincoln was one of the few people who hated slavery. He wanted to establish the proclamation, but he didnt want it to cause problems later on. He was trying to create peace between people who didnt want slavery, and the people who wanted it. He waited to fully put the proclamation in effect until he had full support of the Americans. There were many abolitionist and radical republicans who wanted the proclamation. Lincoln would see slaves tied up in chains, and covered in blood. Lincoln felt that the slaves should not be treated as unfairly. He did not necessarily want them to be treated as equals through either. Lincoln has his own slaves while he was president although they were treated much better than most. Most of the leaders wanted to get along with the opposite.

People started to realize that the way they were treating these people was not the Christian way. Many people were dying and the country had started to go downhill. The Emancipation was the thing that had stopped the war from going on for a longer period of time. The Proclamation showed the Americans what freedom for everyone was like. Peoples ways needed to change to make America a better place. The south and north would need to come together and become a power nation. The two could combine resources and trade with others. This would allow them to become in power close with the British.

The foreign countries were able to trade different resources with little problems after the proclamation. Other countries just looked upon then as an equal country. If blacks could not fight in the war, then the North would not have won. The extra troops in the union war were one of the reasons the North won because they had more man power. The black were fighting for their freedoms once they decided to fight in the union army. It made blacks feel as if they had more of an importance in America.

He wanted people to show their support for the Union and for his presidency. One of the main reasons for the Proclamation was for the Union to grow, and bring the North and South together. Without the proclamation, who knows what would have happened. The South had been very stubborn through the process.

One of the proclamations limits is that it would only apply to states who withdrew from the union. The union was a part of the states that were free states. The south was a part of the confederacy.
