The art as a way to heal illness

Description

It's a therapy based in the art as way to express what someone is feeling. The idea is that the patient might be able to express himself. It's not to interpretation of the patient's works. It can either focus on dealing with art-making process as therapeutic in and of itself. Currently the art therapy includes a vast number of other approaches as: Person-centered, cognitive, behavior, etc. The tenets of art therapy involve: humanism, creativity, reconciling emotional conflicts, fostering self awareness, and personal growth. The roots of art therapy lay mainly in art education, the practice of art, and developmental psychology.

History

The psychoanalytic approach was the earliest form of art psychotherapy. Art therapy is a relatively young therapeutic discipline.
