Chapter 1
Something Deep Inside

Many Ages After The End Of The World
Just Outside The Great City
Tell us another story! The class of children shrieked in excitement in front of the
shimmering crystal wall that displayed the past and all of time. The green pastures of grass
unfolded forever with the splendor of snow covered mountain peaks in the background.
A young boy with sandy dark hair dressed entirely in white shifted his position and sat
up on his knees. Tell us another story of the time before and the people who struggled to know
the One of truth.
Yes, tell us, the other white clad children beamed like singing birds to the woman of
sheer exquisiteness before them.
The dark haired teacher, also wearing a white robe, smiled warmly. There was a slight
pause while she looked into the distance as if she was expecting to see someone. Her heart
smiled then she spoke with great knowledge, Well. There was the story of the two witnesses.
The classroom roared with excitement as a tiny young blond girl shouted, Tell us! Tell
us the truth about this time!
The crystal wall swirled behind the beauty of the woman until the image of a dimly lit
bedroom appeared where a teenage boy was sleeping.

The Present Moment
Christian James Temple abruptly swung out from under the tangled covers on his bed as
if an alarm had gone off inside his skull. His feet hit the bare wood floor with a thud that
sounded like anger. He bent down and rested his elbows on his thighs then positioned his head
in his hands like it was a basketball. The boy clutched his flesh covered skull as if he was trying
to keep it from exploding. He wasnt sure he could make it through the day. Something deep
inside told him that he mustthat he had to succeed. His brown hair was tossed from a night of
restless sleep and his equally dark eyes blinked off the tired feeling. When you got to know him
he would flash a sly look at you sideways that revealed his mischievous disposition.
Fifteen wasnt easy but nothing was easy since the big change. He stood up and
grimaced as he felt the familiar cool sticky sensation near the top of his briefs as they touched
the front of his abdomen.
Annoyed he stormed over to the dresser and yanked the top drawer open. The swiveled
metal handles on the front made a soft fading tap, tap, tap, tap. They reminded him it was too
early to be making that much noise.
He tossed his way through the drawer with no success. Great! He said softly,
reminded by the tapping handles, No clean underwear!
From the corner of the room the familiar hand of a man extended from the shadows and
held out a sweaty t-shirt he had picked up from a cluttered pile of clothes on the chilly planks of
the wooden floor.
Since the big change CJ had grown accustomed to this tall dark figure just appearing any
time that he felt his emotions stir beyond normal. Any frustration, angry thought, or fear would
invoke the life form to materialize.

What? The juvenile was puzzled at the gesture as he looked at the man extending the
shirt.
The man dressed in a trench coat and Humphrey Bogart hat was still obscured in the
dimness like a specter. He said nothing only shrugged and gestured toward the wet spot on CJs
briefs.
The boy grabbed the shirt from the mans hand with contempt. The piece of clothing had
a dirty sock smell to it.
Without shyness in the company of the phantom he dropped his shorts around his thighs
and wiped the messy whitish secretion from his body and the underwear. The teenager pulled
the briefs back into place with his left hand and with the right tossed the moist shirt back onto a
growing heap of dirty laundry. The pungent scent of adolescent hormones and dirty sock wisped
through the surroundings.
The kid glared at the man. Dont say it! He pointed his finger as a threat at the mans
face.
Dont say what? The private investigator looked at him with a baffled expression but
he really knew what CJ meant.
I just sat with her at lunch, thats all! CJ spoke like he had just been caught kissing his
girlfriend after a date. Dont tell me I need to call her. Shes not right for me!
You dreamed about her last night, the PI declared with a smile as he lifted both hands
in the air.
CJ instantly crossed the room like a cat after its prey and got in the PI's face. What I
dream, the crimson face spoke in awkwardness, is none of your business! He turned slightly
away and became sullen.
The PI smiled playfully like he had caught the boy in some embarrassing act. He leaned
toward CJs ear and words trickled out of his mouth and into the lads soul. That was quite a bit
of business you shot into your shorts last night! The PI continued to smile, touched his index
finger to the brim of his hat, then leaned back into the shadow of the corner and disappeared in
a kind of wispy ashen smoke.
CJ laughed and just shook his head from side to side as the guardians wittiness soothed
his heart. Leave it to the PI to put into words something like that, CJ thought to himself. He
was always coming up with lines that made CJ feel cushioned inside.
The boy really liked talking to the PI. It was like having a conversation with someone
who really cared about your feelingsa kind of playful amalgamation of self-assurance and
disclosure. CJ could always count on the PI to help when he had some extremely personal
matter that bothered him. At just the right time, the PI would appear and say the dead on
expressions that made the boy feel secure and accepted. Chris never really got angry with the
specter. The two of them just boxed and fooled around with words. Many times the shadowy
guardian would crack some joke that made the boy laugh with a protected feeling.
Christian forgot how early it was as he yelled out the door of his cluttered bedroom.
Mom! Did the washer get fixed yet? Im out of clean clothes!
The soft loving voice of his mother came back, Its not the washer dear. We dont have
any water.
Great! No water no shower! He mumbled quietly to himself feeling like all his friends
already knew about the nuclear waste spill in his shorts. The young fist grabbed deodorant

from the cluttered dresser top and smeared it under each mildly hairy armpit then onto the
moist shorts and curly pubic hair. Hope that will work, the adolescent awkwardness voiced.
It should be ok, said the PI reassuringly as he came into sight again.
Really? CJ sounded hopeful as he looked at the man for support. You dont think itll
wellstinkor smell? The twinge of his face revealed that would be a humiliating death
among peers.
You wiped off all the equipment pretty good. The PI said matter-of-factly. It should
be ok, then he was gone again as he faded into the smoke like vapor.
CJ shrugged casually. Yeahno worriesI guess.
The boy got dressed and went into the kitchen with his mom. He sat down to a plate of
bacon and eggs. The table wiggled and squeaked a little as he scooted his chair to reach the
plate.
His mother glided past the table and gave him a kiss and a pat on the head. She admired
his dark hair and eyes and noticed he had a pleasant teenaged scent that came within reach of
manhood. He had always been her special little boy and the fact that he was growing up didnt
change anything as far as she was concerned.
Chris sheepishly grinned up at her from boyhood. His only sister was staying at a
friends and it felt good to have his mom all to himself. It was kind of like time traveling back to
when he was just a little crumb pusher when it was just him and his mom together playing in the
park on a sunny day that warmed you to the depths of your heart.
In the living room watching the morning news sat his father. The volume was just a bit
too loud on the set to be comfortable.
CJ nervously glanced up from his eggs and looked at the adult male sideways. He
secretly hoped that nothing like that would ever happen to him.
The man didnt speak or move anymore. This guy planted in the recliner had been
distant most of CJs life and after the big change he had literally turned to stone.
Suffocating quiet gripped the rooms throat. The only sound was the reporter on the
television talking about some obscure cases where people went crazy and started biting other
people.
Its not your fault, his mother shattered the boys covert thoughts like glass. She feared
that her son was blaming himself in some manner for his fathers peculiar circumstance. He
was like that when I married him. Well, not just like that. I mean he was
Cold, CJ cut her off as he finished the bacon and wiped disgust from his lips with a
napkin. You mean dad was cold, mom? He wadded the napkin in one hand and lobbed it onto
the empty plate with years of contempt still smeared on each slender finger. That he had no
feelings? The dark head cocked to the side and squinted with eyes that bled resentment. That
he just sat there like a rock? Well now thanks to Doctor Bizzaro that has become dads total
reality! He not only sits around the house like a rock, he is a rock all day!
CJ dont call him that! She referred to the corruption of the doctors name.
Why? Because youre afraid Bizzaro might be listening? That he might do something to
us? How much more can he do, mom?
Well dont call him that! His mothers voice was full of apprehension and pleading as
she glanced around the room like someone was watching. They say that he really hates it when
people call him that.

Why, mom? Im not afraid of him! CJ held his hands out to each side of him like he
was done with this situation. Let him do the worstlike he hasnt already!
Well, his mother said looking around nervously. Dont call him that, dont ever say
that name, Chris. You never know.
Thats just it, mom! CJ yelled angrily. You just never know what might happen next
in this fucked up world!
Christian James! Dont you use that kind of language in my house! Your father
CJ cut her off instantly in mid sentence, My father sits like a rock all day in front of the
TV! What could Bizzaro do to us that he hasnt done already?
Chris, dont say that name, you know how much he hates it. The fearful tone took on a
sense of terror. Then a woman in the shadows who looked just like CJs mother appeared and
started weeping.
CJ looked fiercely at the crying woman with repulsion. He stood and slammed his chair
back under the place setting of the breakfast table. The table creaked and shook. On the way to
the door he grabbed a jacket and stormed out of the apartment.
He walked and leaped down the several flights of steps until moments later he entered
the wintry city streets below.
People were moving in every direction like hurried trains with no tracks in the December
wind and cold. CJ mechanically entered the flow of traffic and darted through the maze of
avenues and back alleys. Patches of ice and snow made it impossible to move with any speed as
he headed toward the parkhis place of refuge.

Chapter 2
The Big Change

Zek! Christian shouted across the crowded park in an excited tone as he waved
repeatedly to his pal. Zek!
Zek finally heard his name being called and turned to wave back at CJ with a big smile.
A welcoming stir of recognition sweep over him as he saw Chris. The short locks of his playful
hair showed off the dirty blonde color. The boys were often mistaken for brothers since they
were the same height and had a similar kind of slender adolescent strength about them.
It seemed like they had been friends forever but the truth was that Zek had moved here
with his family about three years ago. That was just about the time of the big change when
everything in reality shifted. Zek and CJ had sat together in middle school and when everything
went to hell in a hand basket they stuck together and tried to watch out for each other. It wasnt
easy, especially at first, but they didnt freak out like a lot of other people around them. Instead
they adapted and became best friends.

Thebig change. You would have thought that this kind of thing would have
destroyed the whole of society but people just have this way of getting through the cold winds of
change and moving on no matter how off the wall it gets! The quality of life deteriorated but
mankind collectively sunk its claws into the new reality and held on for dear life.
Details were sketchy at first. Im not sure if anyone knows exactly what happen back
then. For ten years prior to the big change things were getting better. A lot better! Some
meditation group that called themselves The New Light emerged onto the public scene and
began to demonstrate positive changes everywhere. They had come into existence about six
years before this and quickly gained a large following.
The group was mostly viewed as some kooky wish for it and you can have it kind of
New Age mumbo-jumbo but that image soon faded when they started to get some
astounding results. They launched their campaign in the inner cities where the crime rate was
pretty high. The idea was to bring in a small assembly of these New Light people and have
them set up residence in a particularly bad or high crime neighborhood. They would at first
remain hidden from the public and would meditate in shifts around the clock. This was all
done behind closed doors and was intended to bring about positive changes in the people
around them.
As simple (and I might add, as crazy) as it might soundthe program worked! The
crime rate went down and people began to socialize in a more positive manner. The attendance
at sporting events, churches, bars, and PTA meetings all started to go up in these test areas
and people just got along better with each other. Violence and fights decreased even in bars and
at the various sporting events. It was like everybody just got on the same page in their
thinking and started to work with each other. People just began having fun and enjoying life
moreand they started to do thistogether.
That was all happening about nine years ago when the government noticed the results
that The New Light was getting and they not only took interest in the program but they took
over! It didnt look like a hostile take-over at first but thats exactly what it was.

Chapter 1
Return To Outpost Tehrran
#
Seven Days Ago
Outpost Tehrran
The Clissesseanian Empire
The young teenage boy crossed his bedroom with deliberate swiftness and sat back down
on the edge of his bed. The familiar cool sticky sensation in his briefs hit him again and he
grimaced slightly and pulled at the area. He stood up and crossed the room again to a growing
pile of dirty laundry and selected a shirt that smelled like a dirty sock. Without shyness he
dropped his shorts around his thighs and wiped the messy whitish secretion from his body and
the underwear. The teenager pulled the briefs back into place with his left hand and with the
right tossed the moist shirt back onto the growing heap of soiled garments. The pungent scent
of adolescent hormones and dirty sock wisped through the surroundings.
CJ smiled and rubbed his damp fingers together as he laughed and shook his head from
side to side. He lifted his eyes toward forever and spoke into the air, SomedayIm gonna
marry that girl!
From the corner of the room a kind of wispy ashen smoke leaned back into the shadow
and disappeared!
#
Three Day Ago
The Planet Primordia
The Capital City Of Gallafrim
The Chambers Of The Senate Of The Clissesseanian Empire
The ceremonially robed magistrate smacked down the wooden gavel repeated until all
voices ceased. The costumed figure looked out from under his wig and directly at Paxton
Johannas. Continue, he spoke with immense authority.
Keenan is still trapped on Outpost Tehrran, Paxton tone was cautious as he addressed
the closed and very secret meeting of the Clissesseanian senate. He stood in a circular witness
stand in the center of the colossal political arena as every eye fell upon him and every ear
cringed at his pronouncement.
The news was bad. The son of Zethron Helix head of The Syn-Tek Corporation was
missing and Magna-Czar Gallafrimmitus Suettzitten/The Emperor of the Clissesseanian
Empire had firmly stated that there were to be no loose ends! The disconcerted rumble of
muttering voices echoed throughout the domed amphitheater as the sense of dread grew
unbearable.
The conciliator smacked down the wooden gavel again and a hush gripped and squeezed
every open mouth into silence. The man looked around the room with apprehension. A sense of
duty was in his eyes as he spoke what must be. Paxton Johannas, it is the determination of this
hearing that you must return to Outpost Tehrran with your son Daxson the Galla-Fremaen-
Clissessean and rescue Keenan Helix also the Galla-Fremaen-Clissessean from the Tehrran
Magnaincendi by whatever means necessary! He smacked the gavel down three more times
and shouted, This hearing is adjured! The man stood and he and his entourage exited into
private chambers.

One Day Later
The Celeste
Galactic Space Time Distortion Vessel Exploration/Scientific Transport
Military Class-O-Sen-Tek
(Sentient Technology)
Mission: Special Operations Priority: TOP SECRET
High Orbit The Planet Primordia
The Clissesseanian Empire
Hanging above the golden green world the ship resembled a long needle that pierced an
elongated oval ring. This ring circled the long fuselage at its middle but had no physical
attachment. Both constructs appeared to be separate structures but they were held together by
invisible fields of great force.
The cockpit was a circular area in the nose of the ship large enough for six crew and four
passengers. Aft of this, the vessel housed twenty residential cabins, storage facilities, and at its
end shuttle bays.
The captain sat in his throne-like chair at the center of the control room while he read
from a clipboard. He wore the typical gray snug fitting body suit that the Empire issued as
standard uniform to military personnel.
The doors at the back of the cockpit sprang open and the helmsman entered. Good
morning, commander. He spoke in Northern Dialect Clissesseanian.
Good morning, Shawl. The captained responded without looking up. I suppose it is
morning somewhere. Im not sure what it is here.
Shawl laughed. Big day ahead? He looked at the commander.
Two passengers.
Where we headed?
The captain looked up. Outpost Tehrran.
Whoa! Shawls eyes widened. Better pack a lunch!
The captain looked him in the eye. Better pack a suitcase. He handed him the
clipboard.
Shawl read the manifest. Seriously? He said in disbelief as he looked up and then back
to the paper. Paxton Johannes?
And his cadet son. The captain added.
A Clissesseanian dignitary and a Fremaen on a highly classified top secret mission?
The captain responded with raised eyebrows.
Ive been hearing rumors about war. Shawl was hoping for confirmation.
The captain raised his eyebrows again.
I saw The Pilgrim on the way up from Gallafrim.
The captain didnt flinch.
Its stationary just like the rumors said. Its no longer going into phase.
And that, the captain spoke shifting his position, is classified.
Shawl stared at the clipboard. Is this mission type correct?
Yes. A snatch and grab.
That doesnt make sense. A dignitary and a Fremaen cadet? There should be fourteen
heavily armed special-ops!
Not just a cadet. His Eminence son.

A hostage situation at the far end of the empire and they send a political dignitary and
his son?
Hes not a stuffy Politian. Hes been working for years as a Planetary Interpreter.
You met him?
Yes. He and his son are in cabin seven. The captain pointed with his thumb. Nice
guy. He showed me a Tehrran-Clissess greeting. You take your right hand with an open palm
and extend it to the other person. He gestured holding his arm out. And the other person
does the same. Then you grip each others hands and shake them up and down a few times.
Shawl smiled.
It is a custom that dates way back where you show a potential enemy your open hand to
demonstrate that you dont have a weapon.
I guess the stories about the violent nature of the Tehrran-Clissess are true.
Apparently so.
So His Eminence is cordial?
He is more than that. You would think that he was a new crew member. Hes very
respectful and almost apologetic when he requests something.
And the son?
The captain leaded back as his chair cradled him with a growing sense of foreboding.
Hes the typical sharp looking cadet but His words trailed as he thought what to say.
But?
Theres something different about him.
Is he a spoiled little brat?
No. Nothing like that. Hes well. Perfect.
Skipper, thats just weird.
The captain eyed him. You dont know the half of it.
What?
When I looked at this Fremaen it was like he was pulling all my experience out of me so
he could learn it.
You dont think they trained him do you? A Fremaen?
No. Its nothing like the Psych-Scanners during an evaluation. Ive had those bastards
swim around in my head more than a few times. He paused and searched for the right words.
I guess saying that he pulled at my experience is not the right way to explain it. It was more like
I wanted to share my experience with him. It felt like he was some sort of sponge and he just
absorbed anything that might be of value to him. And
What?
He is very disarming.
You mean he has charisma?
No. Thats just it. I mean he is very charismatic but I dont think I could raise a weapon
against him if I had to. The captain looked directly at Shawl.
Skipper. Thats the strangest thing youve ever said to me!
I know, Shawl. I know. I just cant put my finger on it but this Fremaen has some really
unusual presence about him. I didnt speak to him. I only spoke with His Eminence and the
Fremaen just stood in the background while we talkedbut when they left the cabin I felt
nauseous and a little dazed.
Could it have been His Eminence? Was he protecting the Fremaen? Shielding him?
