Task Analysis: Hand Dribble (Basketball)

TASK ANALYSIS UNIT: Basketball SKILL: Hand Dribble VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Stand with feet shoulder width apart. Bend at your knees and have your opposite foot forward. Hold the ball back at your waist with your dominant hand on the back of the ball. Push the ball down to the ground using your fingertips. Let the ball bounce up to your waist before pushing it down again. Put your opposite arm up to protect the ball. Make sure to keeps your eyes up so you can see where youre going! MOVEMENT SEQUENCE (* by key 4 steps) 1. Feet shoulder width apart 2. Bend at the knees and have opposite foot forward 3. Hold ball at waist, dominant hand on back of ball 4. Push ball to the ground 5. Use fingertips to push the ball 6. Let ball bounce to waist before pushing again 7. Opposite arm up protecting ball 8. Eyes up TASK COMPLEXITY VARIABLES Practice Session: Students will first get on lines and practice stationary dribbling. After that they begin walking and dribbling up and down the court. Eventually they will speed up to a jog then run Action Dribble basketball stationary and walking/jogging/running Condition Students must be able to dribble to the free throw line, half court and the opposite baseline maintaining proper form Criterion Student must dribble in place for 30 seconds without losing the ball and up and down the court under control VERBAL CUES Stance Knees Triple Threat* Push Fingertips* Waist Protect Eyes*

DRILLS/ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP THE SKILL1. Zombie Chase Class is divided into two teams. Each team only needs one ball. Students are in a line standing 7 feet from each other. The person at the front has the ball and must weave in and out of his/her teammates. They will dribble down and back. When they get to the front they will hand the ball off to the next person in line. When that student gets back to the beginning he/she must also go around the first person in line to get to the next person up. Continue until everyone has gone through. First team to finish wins Equipment needs: 2 basketballs 2. Octopus Attack! One student will be the designated Octopus. All other students have a basketball. Everyone is inside of a specific area. On the whistle, the Octopus runs around trying to knock the basketballs away and out of the area. If this happens, the student who gets their ball knocked out now becomes an Octopus too! Do this until there are no more basketballs left. Equipment needs: Basketballs
