TASK ANALYSIS UNIT: Locomotor Skills SKILL: Leap GLCEs: K.MS.02.02; M.MS.02.02 VISUAL DESCRIPTION: Get in a running stance. One leg back and one forward. Bend knees and push off toes exploding forward. Knee of front leg should be up. After knee is up extend leg forward. Land on outreached leg with knee slightly bent. Then step to continue the movement. MOVEMENT SEQUENCE (* by key 4 steps) 1. Get in a running stance 2. Bend knees 3. Push off toes. Opposite knee up. 4. Extend leg after knee is up 5. Land on outreached leg. Knee slightly bent. 6. Step to continue movement VERBAL CUES Stance* Bend Push* Reach* Land Step*

TASK COMPLEXITY VARIABLES Objective: The student will be able to perform the mature form of the leap from distances of 2ft, 4ft, and 6ft using the correct form successfully 6 out of 8 times from each distance. Practice Session: Students will walk through the six steps continuously for 5 minutes. Action Leap: Students practice exploding and pushing themselves forward in the leap Condition Students will practice at three distances: two feet, four feet, and six feet. Criterion Students must be able to successfully leap each distance six out of eight times before moving on

DRILLS/ACTIVITIES TO DEVELOP THE SKILL1. Hot Lava! Create circles out of jump rope (or use hoola hoops).These are the rocks. Students will jump from rock to rock to avoid falling in the hot lava (the ground outside of the rocks). As the lava gets higher, rocks will begin to disappear. If student does not land both feet in rock, then they are eaten by the lava. Students can only stay on the same rock for 5 seconds. Go until only one rock is left. Equipment needs: Hoola hoops or jump ropes 2. River Jumping the point of the game is to jump over the river. As the game progresses, the river grows increasingly wider. If a student does not make it across the river, they get eaten by the river monster. Continue game until only one student remains. Equipment needs: Different width objects for students to jump over
