SOUL MATES
A soul mate is someone who has locks that fit our keys, and keys to fit our locks. When we feel safe enough to open the locks, our truest selves step out, and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for who we are and not for who were pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with that one person, were safe in our own paradise. Our soul mate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. When were two balloons, and together our direction is up, chances are weve found the right person. Our soul mate is one who makes life come to life.

The young son says to his dad, Is it true, Dad, that in some parts of the world a man doesnt know his wife until he marries her? The father replied, Yes, that happens in every country, son.
Then there was a man who said, I never knew what real happiness was until I got married. But by then it was too late.

THE OYSTER
There once was an oyster, whose story I tell, Who found that some sand, had gotten into his shell. It was only a grain, but it gave him great pain, For oysters have feelings, although they are plain. Now, did he berate the harsh workings of fate, That had brought him to such a deplorable state? No, he said to himself. Since I cannot remove it, Ill lie in my shell, and think how to improve it. The years rolled around, as the years always do, And he came to his ultimate destiny, too. Now the small grain of sand that had bothered him so, Was a beautiful pearl all richly aglow. This tale has a moral, for isnt it grand, What an oyster can do with a morsel of sand? Think what could we do, if wed only begin, With some of the things that get under our skin.

Autumn is the season of disappointments and unfulfilled expectations. This is the time to take stock of your relationship. Make corrections when necessary and give thanks for the good things you have. WINTER Doubt, disasters, disease, and death characterize this season. Nobody willingly enters this time of life, but it will come at different times in your married life. You may be surprised when a brand new spring melts your coldest winter. But it will. Just like nature needs every season to continue its course and produce its bounty, you need to go through every season in order for your marriage to thrive.

DARKNESS OR LIGHT
When the door of the cupboard is opened, does the darkness from within spill into the room or does the light from the room spill into the cupboard? You see, there is no darkness . . . only light.

In those moments when you are apart from the one you love, you must decide whether you see darkness or light. LONELINESS is . . . the darkness and pain of being alone. SOLITUDE is . . . the light and glory of being alone.

THE PROPHET
Then Almitra spoke again and said, And what of Marriage, master? And he answered saying: You were born together, and together you shall be for evermore. You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days. Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God. But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love: Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls. Fill each others cup but drink not from one cup. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf. Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone.

Even as the strings of the lute are alone though they quiver with the same music. Give your hearts, but not into each others keeping. For only the hand of life can contain your hearts. And stand together yet not too near together: For the pillars of the temple stand apart, And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each others shadow.

MARRIAGE JOKES
The bride, upon getting engaged, went to her mother and said, Ive found a man just like father! Her mother replied, So what do you want from me, sympathy? If you want your spouse to listen and pay strict attention to every word you say, talk in your sleep. Just think . . . if it werent for marriage, men would go through life thinking they had no faults at all. You know the honeymoon is pretty much over when you start to go out with the boys on Wednesday nights, and so does she. Personally, I think one of the greatest things about marriage is that as both husband and father, I can say anything I want to around the house. Of course, no one pays any attention.

Deceive not thyself by over-expecting happiness in the married estate. Remember the nightingales which sing only some months in the spring, but commonly are silent when they have hatched their eggs, as if their mirth were turned into care for their young ones.

GIVING IS LIVING
The more you give, the more you get. The more you laugh, the less you fret. The more you do unselfishly, The more you live abundantly. The more of everything you share, The more youll always have to spare. The more you love, the more you find, That life is good and friends are kind. For only what we give away, Enriches us from day to day.

God said, Your angel will speak to you using the sweetest, most beautiful words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak. And what I am going to do when I want to talk to you? God said, Your angel will place your hands together, and will teach you how to pray. I have heard that on earth there are bad men. Who will protect me? God said, Your angel will defend you, even if it means risking her life.

But I will be sad, because I will not see you any more. God said, Your angel will talk to you about me, and I will teach you the way for you to come back to me, though I will always be beside you. At that moment there was much peace in heaven. Voices from earth could already be heard, and the child asked, softly, God, if I am about to leave now, would you please tell me my angels name? And God said, You will call your angel . . . Mommy.

TOGETHERNESS
Seek opportunities to be together, relaxing together, sharing your interests and ideas together, just being. Try not to depend too much on outer stimuli for entertainment (sometimes its true: the louder the noise, the hollower the drum). Be alone together whenever you can, simply to be yourselves.

AN AIR OF MYSTERY
For the whole of the first week of our marriage, my wife went to bed every night wearing a white glove on her left hand, and a dainty white sock on her left foot. I thought this was rather strange, but didnt like to ask her about it until the second week I eventually plucked up courage. Darling, said my demure bride, my mother said that if I wanted a long and happy marriage I should keep an air of mystery and never let you see me completely naked.

LOYAL HEARTS
There are loyal hearts, there are spirits brave, There are souls that are pure and true. Then give to the world the best you have, And the best will come back to you. Give love, and love to your heart will flow, a strength in your utmost need. Have faith, and a score of hearts will show, Their faith in your word and deed.

By profession I am a soldier and take pride in that fact. But I am prouder infinitely prouder to be a father. A soldier destroys in order to build; the father only builds, never destroys. The one has the potentiality of death; the other embodies creation and life. And while the hordes of death are mighty, the battalions of life are mightier still. It is my hope that my son, when I am gone, will remember me not from the battle field but in the home repeating with him our simple daily prayer, Our Father Who Art in Heaven.

MARRIAGE FRIENDSHIPS
A marriage is a series of friendships. Love serves as its underlying theme. Friendships provide it with the new challenges around which the relationship further develops. Each type of friendship with ones partner comes into being, rises to a peak of enthusiasm, and then wanes away in our cedar chest of sentimental values. Every once in a while we go to the chest and draw out a friendship item to give us a shot in the arm. Then we put it away till another day.

Isnt marriage, like life, unstimulating and unprofitable and somewhat empty when too well ordered and protected and guarded? Isnt it finer, more splendid, more nourishing, when it is, like life itself, a mixture of the sordid and the magnificent; of mud and stars; of earth and flowers; of love and hate and laughter and tears and ugliness and beauty and hurt?
