The students work should meet this description, the student should receive adequate supervision, the student should have a safe place to work, and the student should have the opportunity to fulfill learning requirements. ! The student should provide diligent performance of work, safeguard the interests of the organization, and share information that may impact the students ability to do the job including the level of internship course for which the student has registered. ! As an web and new media strategies intern (integrated communications), I will be responsible for the following tasks: o Edit website content using iModules and basic coding o Update and monitor social media for the University of Maryland Alumni Association o Create and edit content for newsletters and university emails using Photoshop and Dreamweaver o Work closely with the photo and video team doing miscellaneous tasks as assigned o Miscellaneous office duties as assigned Description of compensation including amount, how and when paid and treatment of taxes, as well as, facilities, and supervision to be provided by the worksite organization to the student: " This is a non-paid internship being done for credit only. Units of credit to be earned: 3-6 (require a minimum of 45 hours of work per credit) " I am enrolled to earn 3 credits for COMM386. Time frame of internship:

Start date: Jan. 28, 2014 End date: May 15, 2014 Weekly schedule: Tuesdays 9:30-1:30, Thursdays 9:30-1:45 Grading Intern: The student should follow the syllabus provided by the instructor. Supervisor: The supervisor should write an evaluation of the student and send it to the instructor by semesters end. It should be signed and on company letterhead. This letter should verify the number hours the student has worked and give a descriptive evaluation of the quality of work provided by the student during the internship. A copy of the evaluation should be provided to the student. Please note that students will be allowed to view the evaluation. Instructors access to evaluate the student Early in the internship the student should coordinate and the organization should welcome an onsite visit at the worksite for the instructor. The onsite visit should include a tour of the facility and the students workspace, and an opportunity to meet and talk briefly with the supervisor. Student Interns Goals and Objectives (including project plan) Goal: To build a portfolio with professional photo and video samples Objective: Resize and edit photos from the alumni newsletter to be used on the website Objective: Create video thumbnails Goal: To strengthen my web design and coding skills. Objective: Help the University Alumni Association manage and edit website content using iModules and basic coding. Objective: Manage events on the Maryland Alumni website. Objective: Update the Maryland Alumni website homepage each month to match content from the alumni Newsletter, The Shell Goal: Improve my social media writing skills Objective: Write at least three posts per week for the Maryland Alumni Twitter and Facebook accounts. Objective: Take, edit and post photos to the Maryland Alumni Instagram account by taking responsibility over the #tbt (Throwback Thursday) posts. Project plan: Reconstruct the University of Maryland Brand Tool Kit (website) Background: With a new ambition to rebrand all University of Maryland department websites, the marketing and communications department has been tasked with recreating the UMD Brand Tool Kit. This semester, I will be in charge of this website from start to finish, from choosing the website theme to reorganizing/editing the content from the old tool kit. The project does not have a strict deadline, but we are aiming to have it finished before the end of the semester. Weather emergency plan and absenteeism policy " If the university is closed or delayed in the case of a weather emergency, I will contact Linda to double check whether the office is open and operating. If the university is closed, I will ask Linda if there are any assignments she would like me to complete at home, or coordinate a day I can come in to make up my lost hours. " I will also communicate with Linda in advanced about planned absences and coordinate a different day to make up those hours as well. " In the case of a sickness or emergency, I will notify Linda as soon as possible and will be sure to set up a date to replace hours that were lost.

Rights of the worksite in supervising the student The supervisor has the right to direct the students work, hours, discipline, and termination. Process of termination Student and supervisor should share concerns with the instructor before taking action to terminate the internship. The student should have permission of the instructor before terminating participation in the internship. The instructor may remove the intern from the placement.
